I know the latest Metallica album came out awhile ago but I have been listening to it lately. Does anyone else think it is the best Metallica album since Ride the Lightning & Master of Puppets ?

I appreciate all their albums but Death Magnetic has so much energy and just plain fucking rocks! I saw them last Nov. in Albany NY.. If you ever have the opportunity to see them live DO IT!

I gave up on Metallica a long time ago but I would give Death Magnetic a listen or 2 but I'd be VERY skeptical. That said, the first 3 albums are among the best albums in rock history(not a giant fan of justice) :)

Me too, I haven't listened to Death Magnetic yet... Very skeptical, but I agree on the first three, plus I liked Justice too. It wasn't as good but still good none the same.

I think that 'Justice' was the pinnacle. Like Sampson, they lost something when they cut their hair.

@Nick - I totally agree with seeing them live. Best concert experience ever.

Yeah, blackened is bad ass, there are a couple really good songs on justice but the production was too weird especially the snare :)

I hear that. That's the only reason I wouldn't list it with Lightning and Puppets.

'Eye of the beholder' was the first metal song I had ever heard. It was on vinyl. It was a Friday night after the first week of football doubles. I had a few beers in me and had also just taken my first dip. I was laying on the couch in the dark at a friends house. He said, "before you goto sleep I want you to hear this". He put on the record and left the room. I laid on the couch and stared into the darkness as the music and nicotine overtook me.

This probably explains my bias towards Justice.
