View Full Version : Thoughts on StrikeForce

I've got to say, last nights StrikeForce card was pretty interesting. I know Eddie and Joe work for the UFC and we all love MMA but there are hints of 10th Planet in StrikeForce as well. I mean, I heard Pat Miletich say "Mission Control" during the womens tourney. Former champ Jake Sheilds almost put "The Twister" on "Mayhem". Gilbert Melendez thanks Denny Prokopos in his press conferences... Connor, Aoki... We're spreading like wildfire. I really wish they would have televised the "Draculino" fight but the 4 fights on the Showtime card were actually entertaining. We saw Bobby Lashley show he's no Brock Lesnar and gas out against a fire fighter. Speaking of WWE transplants, Batista is supposedly in the Cesar Gracie camp now. Denny should show him that guillotine grip. We saw KJ Noons claim he'd be open to a fight with Nick Diaz, as if he'd move up to 170. Jacare transformed himself into a pretty decent striker and dominated Tim Kennedy. And "Feijao" smoked the same sh*t Werdum did, to top King Mo. I had fun watching it. By the way, did anyone else notice the 2 Cyborgs in the crowd? Is it me or is Christiane the bigger of the 2?

The last sequence of the fight when Feijao threw and connected with the knees and elbows on King Mo was simply viciously amazing! I also, really enjoyed the Jacare vs Kennedy fight. I definitely think they are putting on solid cards and find them quite enjoyable.

I was there. It was entertaining. I would give it probably a 7 out of 10, based on all of the live MMA events I have been to. The production was not running smoothly, and there was alot of time between certain fights (like 30 minutes sometimes), and some other hilarious issues. But other than that, it was enjoyable. My instructor won his fight, and after that the rest was just icing on the cake.
-------------------------------------------
Some observations I noted on the UG yesterday. I am copy/pasting because I am lazy. So some things may be redundant.
- 3 Minute rounds on prelims is retarded.
- Dean Lister loves Nachos
- Strikeforce girls...def doable.
-Cyborg was signing autographs..Not that this is relevant to her position, but she is actually fairly pretty in person when she is all done up, to be honest.
-Lashley...fiercely overrated.
-Zhoo Zhitsu! Zhoo Zhitsu!!!
-Holy Fuck those refs were retarded.
-Fireworks kick ass.
-A good entrance does not ensure victory.
-Could not call Kennedy/Souza. Expected more out of Tim's hands.
-Even the ignorant Houston audience booed Noons for the late blows...and the dude is from Houston.
-Speaking of ignorant audiences. They booed a good amount..but that was trumped by 20 dudes directly in front of me screaming "King?....Mo!" and "Get that paper Mo!"....However it was nice when they all collectively sat down in silence for some reason at 1:14 of round 3.
-The Jacare nut kick took so long because the idiot officials actually forgot to stop the clock and had to scramble to reset the time before the fighters could resume...
-The stadium was maybe 3/4 full at the peak.
-Daniel Cormier is a hoss.
-Time between fights was ridiculous at times...and the transitions were sloppy. Often an interview would be running as the fighters began to lockup.
- I saw Mauro pick his nose. Not a quick one either. He was in there for a good second.

My favorite part was when they were teaching the time keeper how to use the computer. Classy.

Jacare fought a smart fight. I thought the decision coulda went either way.

1.Bob Lashley's muscles are too bulky for mma imo. He is gasping for oxygen for his muscles which probally caused him gassing out. His takedown transitions doesn't seem as smooth and crisp as Brock Lesnar or Cain Velasquez.
2.Horrible refereeing in the KJ Noons fight.
3. Kennedy/Jacare was pretty interesting. I thought Jacare was controlling the fight but leaning towards Kennedy near the end. But couldve gone either way
4.King Mo doesn't impress me as a champion, he doesn't seem complete or have one area of dominance. Might be my striking ignorance, but King Mo should not leave his lead hand down so low exposing his face IMO. Good body shots and got away clean at some point
5. Feijao took King Mo apart piece by piece, very nice knee and leg kicks.
But UFC is the shiiiiiiiet! Can't wait till the 28th!

I hope Couture pulls out the win. Strikeforce was decent I knew King Mo was not championship material.

that was a terrible show..fighters did thier job but it was A. short on figts.B some of the most terrible reffing ive ever seen, the late punc was a acident in my mind but they needed to give the guy his 5 min recovery time....the knee is if too but it was the refs fault for not being clear about the stoppage..i like strikeforce and ill still watch but im not going to take it as serious as the ufc

Was anyone else surprised that when Galvao took Patino's back he didn't even look for the sub? I thought it was a little strange that he was content to just pound on him.
I only saw the fights and didn't see the ring girls so I must say,
this:
-Cyborg was signing autographs..Not that this is relevant to her position, but she is actually fairly pretty in person when she is all done up, to be honest.
makes this suspect:
- Strikeforce girls...def doable.
Hmmm... I think Galvao is just concentrating on a more MMA orientated attack on the ground, it seams to be that he is trying to teach himself to not go for the sub right away. But i think personally that he punched a bit to long without going for the choke...

not that exciteing of a fight
They lowered the rounds from 3 x 5 min rounds down to 3 x 3 minute rounds and told us only 3 days before the fight. Wasn't a lot of time to work..and after the first time Drac immediately took Rocky down when he through his first punch and put him in a heel hook..Rocky stayed away not wanting to commit to punches.
Kind of hard to get a guy to the ground who KNOWS you want it to go to the ground, and KNOWS your in a rush because you only have 3 minutes. Then once you get there....submit a sweaty guy whos NOT tired because its only three minute rounds especially when you've probably already taking half that time getting him there. (Not to mention his two big injuries he had while fighting)

Draculino Comments on Strikeforce Win
“Man, now I can say. I fought against serious injuries before my fight. Meniscus and neck. Almost had to pull out due to a herniated disk on my neck.
But [i] could fight it, with the help of Dr. AJ Vasques, Dr. Lubor and Dr. Vu. and they let[got] me ready for the fight.
Fight was good. Rocky Long was [a] 45 fights veteran. Tough and strong guy. Really good boxer and hard to put on the ground. They cut my legs off on the decreasing of the rounds to three minutes rounds. I almost had a heart attack when they told me 3 days before the fight! But I did good. I think I would have submitted him with a little more time. I was in his back punching him and with his arm domminated and the choke was comming when the fight was over. But props to him. Really tough guy with lots of strengh.
I wanted to thank all the people who helped me on my training. My MMA coaches, Gordo, Soca, Renzo Gracie, Ricardo Almeida. My strengh and conditioning coach Kristen Sommers. My boxing coach Frank Adame. All my students from Gracie Barra BH and Gracie Barra Texas and Master Carlos Gracie Jr.”

That's really weak how they shortened the rounds like that. It's just unfair to everybody; the fighters and the fans.

How about Gus Johnson. After feijao finishes the fight with some nice Muay Thai Gus asks him to talk about his superior "boxing".

yes, a 19-26 record does equal 45 fights... just saying.
I still give him props for getting in there, specially with his injuries.

What exactly were you saying. I must of missed it.

Yeah, it was pretty bad..he couldn't even turn his head like 2 1/2 weeks ago...was about 65% at the time of the fight.
