eddie's system is the shit when done right, weed, go go's , and loco's, but why is it that
mma fighters that try rubber guard never seem to HUG THE KNEE, it's not that hard, just hug it like a beutifull woman or a bag of kush !!!

no doubt, it's frustrating seeing all the options that are available & so many fighters don't take advantage of the gifts given by opponents. "News Flash" Rubber Guard is anti Lay and Pray Wrestler

I think its because if you have only seen it, or not looked hard at it, it seems like the leg over the back of the head is where the control comes from. I knew of rubber guard before I knew of 10th Planet and thats how I pictured it working. Then again, Id only seen it a couple of times in MMA.

that's true, with the untrained eye I'm sure that's how it seems. I bought eddies books, disected them, did a million reps, and fell into this crazy demention of Super Weed, Hybrid Jiu Jitsu of old & new, Loco Crackheads & GoGo Hoes, Twisted Weed to play a game of Twister, Fucking old school heads up with new Weed Inspired shit, and all from Hugging The Knee

You should see the looks on the faces of local fighters when I explain to them that gripping the shin is sort of irrelevant. I mean it keeps them squared up and keeps your attacking leg within reach at all times BUT the entire control of the position is in the trapping of that arm and hugging the knee. Everybody just presumes that holding your own ankle "is rubber guard", really frustrating.
Maybe Eddie should save up his money and in a handful of some major MMA magazines he should put out a full page ad that says: Rubber Guard... You're Doing it Wrong. HUG THE DAMN KNEE.

Well....me personally when I use rubber guard with MMA I always think that my free hand should be punching. So, I guess I get caught up in the moment and start hitting that ear that is right in front of me. If my opponent tries to block I will zombie and then hug the knee. Then....my other hand is free!!! YAY!! More head punching.

hug the damn knee or if he's gone home alone or stalling do like Jason "Dooms" Day did in the UFC fight throw some vicious elbows!
P.S. Interestingly enough he's also got a MMA win by Twister submission on his record! ;)

George Sotiropolous plays a "Sick" rubber guard in the UFC. The Swim, to Spider Webb, to Arm Crush, against Jason Dent was some beutifull shit to watch. Shayna Baseler also hit a Twister in strikeforce. The new Hybrid Generation of Jiu Jitsu Artists' are going to bring some "Sick Shit" to mma

Me and George learned that path together! And he would've finished that arm crush, if he had got the foot behind the head!

Im marked as the "10th Planet guy" in the gym Im in now. Which is bad, because I know very little of anything I have stitches in my knee, so I can only fight off my back, and another opening in my ankle so now lockdown.
The instructor now just sits there, and grins at me, and wont let me do anything till I try rubber guard. He just postures out of it. I know if I can get him in there, he cant get out, but my set up needs work.

Your supposed to hug the knee?? LOL just kidding. I was at the rumble in the cage when dooms day pulled the twister against a supposed good boxer. He had been saying on the radio earlier that day that he would win by twister I was still super excited to see it live in MMA though.

I Approve
Probably one of the biggest mistakes I used to make. When I first started pulling rubber guard on guys, at least half of them would pull out because I was so focused on going down the path, I'd weaken my squeeze on the knee. Even today, I need to focus, as when I try to go for Kung-Fu move, I more often than not squeeze less on my knee than I should, and they have a window to slip out. That knee squeeze is something to dedicate time and reps to (but hey, what isn't in jius?)

And they grab their ankle the wrong way too

no doubt, every thing in this complex art requires time and reps, to commit anything to muscle memory. as eddie says, long term project, but worth it. A degree in jiu jitsu is just like a degree in computer science or marketing, and much more fun

slowly but surely fighters are catching on though, MMA guard play will be insane once it resenates, especially amongst the lower weight classes.

Is having really long legs a help or a hindrance?

Long legs are what you make of them, if you develope a "Sick Tricky Guard" with flexibility and a lot of "Misdirection" your long legs will only help you. But if your guard is stagnet and not dynamic in any way, Then train hard on leg lock defense, Because great leg lock artists' love lazy lumbering limbs. "And that should scare the shit out of you" ACL's MCL's you get the picture

We could do a shirt with "HDK" Hug Damn Knee!!
That shirt, if made, would go down in history, with such classics as the Rape T and the Electric Chair T. It must be done, for great justice.
