In my country only the female have the long nails. And sometime maybe if the guy play the classical guitar. Today I spar at 10th planet with no Gi-top, to prove a point for eddie bravo. Now I have a scratch all over my arms and feet. If I have the Gi,I don't care. But if you gonna train no-Gi,be a man,cut you nails.

I used to train at a school where one guy had toe nails that looked strips of tree bark extending past the tips of his toes. I suggested that he go to Home Depot to get them trimmed. He stopped talking to me after that.

I am not sure if you are aware but I heard Koral is making something to combat this problem in the grappling world. Toe and finger nail scrapes are a real problem. I don't have the actual photos yet but my contact at Koral calls them "gis for the hands and feet".

gi for hand/feet LOL but at my gym we dont have a issue with it, mainly because all the instructors most likely carry clippers with them....but I personally keep my nails as short as possible from two years of violin. can't play with nails :(

i had to pull a student to the side and send him home and told him he HAD to shower brush his teeth and wear deodorant before coming to class.
He smelled so bad that no one wanted to get on the mat with him, and avoided the area where he was.
the guy is only 18...but good god, you gotta know you stink at some point- right?
they started calling him "oscar"...poor kid.
i was incredibly embarrassed for him
