The gym I currently attend is charging more than I can afford, I have no friends to roll with since I moved. Even if I did have some one to roll with, I have no where to roll. My new job is leaving it very limited for free time to roll. Any suggestions on what to do if I cant actively roll? Just wondering what you guys do to stay motivated, right now im in a slump.

Post up on here your location and you might find some guys in the same situation. There are things like Gracie garage too. (I didn't say the last part though.)

Erik,
A long time ago a friend turned me on to mindtools.com At the time (15yrs ago) it was a free website that had TONS of info about athletic visualization techniques for different sports. Things have changed a bit now and the site is more geared towards less athletic based ideas. Even so visualization is HUGE, Let me explain... Most professional athletes use these techniques to train. Jiu Jitsu is no different than being a baseball pitcher of golfer in the reguard that one can literally INVISION reps or techniques in the comfort of your own home. Obviously this is no substitute for the real thing but it can keep you sharp until your situation changes.
Check out this article I found for you: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/673221/the_technique_of_visualization_for.html
Dont knock it till you try it...
I visualize DAILY. I run rewps in my mind all the time and I believe it gives me an edge. Try it

If you live near a college you might want to ask around to see if there are any grappling clubs. I know the school here has a wrestling open mat every sunday in their multi-purpose gym, you just show up and throw down.

first i would get a parter which u did. then buy some matts, but not real matts those are fuckin expensive (unless u get lucky at a goodwill or something ;)). But those block pieces that you put on the ground for kids. they sometimes have like the alphabet in each block haha, but they work amazing. Then change ur availability at work and have only one day off, which im sure u can.
Then roll in ur garage or basement man, ur set. thats what i would do at least.
hope u figure something ut, good luck
cheers

Many gyms have a scaled payment plan, meaning it is cheaper to train for two days a week than it is for five. Two days is better than nothing. I also used to drive 135 miles each way to train when I first started to train. And I stayed in a hotel when I had too. If you love to train it is worth it.

You are military right??? Put up a flyer at your bases gym. I'm sure there are guys on your base that roll. Get in contact with your local MWR and maybe they can get you in touch with other grapplers.
