If Oregon starts imposing gun laws like colorado I am going to move to Sand Point and open a gym!
I heard it opened in Oklahoma City? ;)
There is a guy in Seattle who was down, havnt heard from him in a while so I'm not sure what he's thinking now
Hunt him down Rachael. Force him into it
I'd be pretty stoked if there was a 10p gym in my neck of the woods
I'm always interested in hearing about a 10th planet gym / moon / hotbox / whatever. Is there a way that we can track interest in seeing something done here on the West side of Washington?
Unifying:

There's a number of names of folks who, at various times, expressed interest in doing this.
So how do we do this?
Tim Horton
Brian Fitzgerald
Kenji
Rachael Kaulig
Joshua Jarboe
Jerry Beal
Nickomang
BillWalker
That's what I got from my search. Who knows where people are now.
Eddie doesn't "pick" locations per se. People who are interested, come to him for an affiliation. I am surprised there's not one yet, I am sure at one point it will happen.
BTW... Best of luck to your Professor, Miriam Cardoso, on her first Pro fight. The first time I ever wore a gi was at seminar she did in West Seattle last year. She is amazing. :)
Seattle is a great spot for 10p. It'll happen eventually :)
Thanks!! Her BJJ record is crazy and her passion for the art is obvious. But I'm very nervous for her. Her opponent is 4-5-0 and has lost by submission at least twice. That can't make her comfortable going up against a BJJ World Champion like Professor Cardoso.
Probably stupid for her white belt student to be nervous for her but eh. I'll feel better when she wins. :)
Yeah, this is Washington, the pot joke is there but I'm keeping it classy today. ;)
I know her opponent too... She has been at many tournies I was at. I went to the fight when she fought 10P purple (then blue) belt Kyra Batara in Portland. I was in Portland for a tourny and told Kyra I would go watch her fight.
I have never seen Professor Cardoso's stand up but she is an amazing women and I don't think she would even consider stepping into the cage unless she was ready. I am very excited for her! :)
I live in Bellingham now (used to be w 10P Portland) and would love to get together and train with some like minded 10P folks. I train at Shayne Simpson's up here. The BJJ program is run by a Gracie Barra black belt, he's old school from Ralph and Ceaser Gracie but is extremely open minded as well and is always welcoming other/new philosophies etc. For the past month the guy who runs the day classes has actually been having me take the last 30 min. of class to teach the truck. If you're ever in the area come in for a visit. We've also got 10P Coquitlam not too far north, haven't made it there yet but am dying to.
I think the maple valley, Covington area would be a prime location for a 10p school. Tahoma high school is in the neighborhood and it has a total bad ass wrestling program. Where I train a wcft in auburn we are the top gym and Amc is up north in Kirkland.
Seriously. Me too. I will sign up for LIFE if there's a 10P Seattle. PS. Not sure if anyone mentioned, but Eddie, you were brilliant at Metamoris. Can't wait for #III. (Almost as much as I'd like to see you help Royce... uh.. put things in perspective.)
Rock On.
Steve of Seattle
we should try to get a Seattle hotbox going! or at least all meet up sometime to practice 10p techs haha
Someone needs to do it!
I would be up for that. Lot easier said than done :)
I'm doing what I can from my end. For now it's not much but I'm bound and determined to be a part of it.
I'm just a white belt but I'm pretty good at keeping track of people, communicating, administrating etc.
bjjgeek, Kenji, anybody else who is serious, let's find a way to plan this out.
I think what this movement needs most is a face, someone who is going to go out, kill it in tournaments, earn rank and work to make this thing official. I'm not sure whether that will be me or not, we'll see. If it is, it's going to be a slow process.
Any blue or purple belts in the greater seattle area feeling ambitious? ;D
lol, I hope you're not just messing around man. We need a hero.
I wish it were that simple. You know how it is: hotboxes have to offer free classes at first. So at first, you'd get no money. We would have to work our way towards being, what a moon? Before there was any money in it for you.
We also need space and mats...though I have some hopes and dreams that maybe I'll share when we get that far into the conversation....
I hear you. It's a risky investment in a way: if it pays off it feeds your family eventually. Right now it doesn't. I'm given to understand that the folks who undertake this kind of venture do it for the love at least at first.
Can I ping you privately and try to see how I might incorporate you in my evil plans? If you're serious about this, having a little help in terms of finding a training space and getting access to a financial stream can't hurt right?
My worst case scenario here is somebody tells me "No, I can't help you" and I come up with a different evil plan while working on self-rescue (forming my own hotbox).
Redacted due to lack of interest. PM me if you want to know what the heck got redacted.
blues and above had to pay an extra $20 a month. Explain your madness behind that one, please.
