Beautiful.
That was sick
Dope!
LOVE it. I watched Garry compete and kill at a no time limit, submission-only competition held by Dream several months ago. He is super technical and methodical. Very fun to watch.
Whoa. Some lockdown, Prison Guard, Electric Chair-ishness, and other assorted goodies in this match, as well.
That dude is super exciting to watch. the pace these top guys keep is unreal and exhausting.
Super impressive :)
He just kept throwing it at him. Finally one stuck. Nice. The guy was explosive too.
That was sick just the whole match you could learn alot just from this video alone
He's on a roll man.
I am really surprised that you aren't seeing the truck more in MMA/UFC competition. How many times did you guys see fighters last night with a deep single hook that never really did much with it? I recall a lot of fights. Carmouche/Tate especially. These fighters are set up perfect to hit the truck, and instead they are fighting for a second hook or just holding on, maybe throwing some punches.
Is there a reason they aren't using this in MMA?
Is it too high risk because you end up in half guard bottom if you slip up?
Are there just not enough people in MMA well versed in Truck?
Do they feel they may lose the position more often than not?
I compete in BJJ but have not stepped into the octagon for MMA yet, so curious what other people think.
If anything I would imagine its a great way to eventually get the second hook too in MMA for the RNC if thats the path for most of these fighters, but seems like nobody wants to use the truck in UFC, just wondering why
Defo worth watching the whole match, sick match!!
Gary has only two modes, 'get me the fuck out of here NOW' and 'ATTACK'. Love his style, incredible skills and the sort of game that is perfect for MMA.
that match was awesome. i love the textbook tenth planet stuff he used. anyone know who he trains with in the system? if he does at all? i liked the electric chair attempt to dogfight. the other dude should have had his whizzer in. aside from that his RNC at the end. ive always questioned whats better, breathing in and going for one big squeeze or taking it slowly. but seeing how he breathed in and held the position and then breathed in again and agai until he tapped. that was waaaaay more dangerous than most RNC's ive seen before.
learning something new everyday
Im leaning back on my chair, both hands behind my head, and a huge smile on my muthafucking satisfied face!
Strap your ass' in kids, you gonna see a lot more of these transitions in competition each month that goes by you'll see.
Many of the top guys were going to many of our money positions regularly and now that the blinders are literally off, the 10th planet machine is just starting to hum. Watch!
He really is. He just beat Bill Cooper in a sub only match, which I wasn't expecting at all. Garry dodged some darces, guillotines, toe holds, and triangles from Bill, and then near the end caught Bill in a quick inside heel hook. It was a really good match. On a side note, the guy is basically not able to be finsihed. Keenan, Bill Cooper, hell even Buchecha (at the ADCC Absolute) have all had darces on him and haven't been able to finish. On some podcast he said that Chris Weidman has darced him over 400 times and that's how he learned to defend it so well.
His armbar defense is also maybe the best I've ever seen. In several Kumite matches and and Kron Gracie at ADCC had his arm in some nasty spots! Joao Miyao had him in some trouble spots and he always got out. Vinny Magalhães is the only other person I've seen in such deep armbars and been able to escape.
Cardio machine, super technical, very sharp RNCs, guillotines, heel hooks, and toe holds. he has some really unorthodox attacks for leg locks, and he's great at taking the back from everywhere. Really great half and deep half too. He's one of the most exciting guys in the sport for sure and has a bright future.
That was awesome!! I gotta give that a try
Super entertaining match!
Super technical clinching style. He has the potential to be in an all time great
All I know is that he trains at Brunswick BJJ, not with any specific 10th Planet schools or instructors.
As for squeezing, Einstein has always said not to go 100% on your first go, unless you want to burn out your arms/legs. If you start with a lower percentage strength and slowly work your way up while tightening the squeeze (and throwing in some freedom rock), your opponent freaks out because he/she never knows when you'll reach full strength. I always know I can wait it out when some idiot goes Hulk-strength on me.
