Nearest one is Melbourne. One of the members here - Isaac Atley is in Auckland (I think?)
Marty thank u for your reply.
Do you have Issac Atleys contact detail?
Hey man, sorry im down in dunedin. John alighieri is the man you're looking for. you can find him on here or facebook, he's generally lurking around. :) he is in Hamilton which is almost definitely easier for you to get to.
I'm always keen on meeting 10th planet enthusiasts though so if youre ever down my ways, throw me a message. I'll probably be in auckland once or twice this year so I'll try and remember to do the same if you want. :)
Beautiful to see you guys hitting it off just the way 10th Planet brothers would.
You know you are all welcome anytime at the Melbourne and Sunshine affiliates here in Australia!
hi is there any wellys cats up in here im so keen to learn
Dang its cool to see NZers popping up on the forum. as far as I'm aware, there's no 10th planet people near wellington. john is the closest in hamilton for people in the north island, and I'm the closest in the south. from everything I've found in nz jiu jitsu, best bet is to find any school and train there then supplement with MTS and if you can afford the flights, get to train with frank and josh over in melbourne.
please add me on facebook or skype or whatever, and anytime its possible we can train. if we get enough people together we could all meet up and swap techniques, or even do a nz trip to melbourne and get frank and/or josh to share some wisdom.
For anyone that wants to, you can find me on isaac jamie on facebook. :)
Isaac
I am currently training at Suriken MMA been training three month.
I am 33 years old training hard so I can have a go at grassroot fight this time next year.
I found 10th planet jujiju useful as I already have flexible hip flexes I can have someone stand on my knee while I am on butterfly stretch and be there with out feeling any pain for hours.
I really want to learn twister.
Unfortunately there is no 10th planet in AUckland so I am looking to find my answer here.
please pm me if anyone if practicing TJJ in
Auckland

I dont know if id get people standing on my knees in butterfly stretch hurting or not but fair enough. Are you subscribed to MTS? if megabytes were worth a kg of gold it would still be worth its weight. and its only a few dollars a month. That will help xou more than anything except training full time at a 10th planet moon. get a grappling dummy (person or not) and rep the hell out of moves. If i'm in the north island ill throw you a message, if not make the trip to john. its only a few hours. :)
good luck . kia kaha bro :)
Ya I have contact. John will head down during the year.
Thanks all
Hi guys, I am going to be in Raglan for 6 months, im looking for a trainer or a training partner, is there anyone who lives nearby? I am looking to pay for the sessions.
Sorry guys!
Between weird as fuck "funny parenting videos" and the usual trolling garbage, I slowly drifted away from the forum. I'm still training and teaching pretty much everyday, focusing on optimizing/rehabbing my weak ass body LOL.
Got some big plans coming up for my family and me early next year which is sucking up tons of my free time but I always got time to help out my 10P family :)
I started this tread few month back. I finally had my first 10th planet jj session with John in hemilton. It was two hrs drive down south but it was well worth it. I have decieded to do this one a month. In those two hours I went through electric chair twister side control and rubber guard transition which was bit difficult.
I am physically doing bjj but my heart stays with 10th planet grate that I have somewhere to learn the and place to practice as my bjj gym its bit difficult still peoples ego is there and I had to slap on 10th planet sub like undercover but good think is my instructor don't put much attention to me as I am white belt so I have avoided truble so far.
10th planet to go
from happy ailian
want to grade in 10th planet system if possible. I be happy when I am tapping people at my gym with the 10th planet sub.
Will go head to see that happen.
I just hope bjj ego doesn't affect me at gym.
I have some family that has lived in Auckland off and on for the past few years. I hope to make it over to visit myself sometime soon.
Shin80, just a piece of unasked for advice if you'll indulge me. Ego seems to have already affected you at your gym but not how you think. Don't worry so much about 10th planet vs bjj vs fill-in-the-blank technique. The foundation of all grappling is good basics. Focus on that and your game will take off. Eddie came up in a traditional jiu jitsu system and his game developed just fine. For sure, play with all sorts of techniques but focus on the basics. The greatest thing about white belt is how much there is to learn and drill. Have fun with it and don't worry about the lines some people draw in the dirt.
Thank you for your comment. Yes I finally found some place where I can freely drill 10th planet style. Where in my gym when I drill some rubber guard or electric chair to vaporizer people give me a bad look. Like I shouldn't practice this in our gym.So I kinda have to hide and do what I want to practice. I think it's what all 10th planet people have to go through. Hopefully it will get better Some day
New Zealand is taking its sweet time to see that tpjj is where it's at! Shout out to John for opening up the first 10th planet moon in New Zealand. I am looking forward to training with him at some point.
If anyone is ever down south, hit me up.
Awesome to hear you got there Shin, love the game and just remember that haters hate us cos they aint us!
Yap agreed one day 10th planet system will come main stream and it can be practiced in your bjj gym.
No worries. I would bet that the folks in your gym probably see a white belt working on some more advanced stuff and think you should be drilling basics. They could be hating on 10thplanet but I'd bet they just want to see you working fundamentals. I'm sure Eddie practiced his hip escape a million times before he even thought of the rubber guard. Solid basics allow you to play with more advanced stuff. Enjoy the process and most importantly have fun!
I totally agree with you and I also told Shin that he needed to focus on his basics first. That being said let me tell you a story about New Zealand because I think you are missing the point that Shin was trying to make :)
New Zealand is probably 10-15 years behind the US when it comes to a lot of things, jiu jitsu included. Many moons ago I started to play with the rubber guard at my old club and was being successful with it to the point that the instructor and gym owner had to give me a lecture about not using this "Eddie Bravo bullshit" and that any of the 10th planet techniques wasn't welcome at their club.
I've also been nicely told to feel free going to somewhere else in order to pursue it if my heart felt like it. Couple of months after I booked my tickets to go to L.A to train with Eddie and ended up staying 3 months there lol
The nogi/ 10th planet/ Eddie's hate was strong back then and unfortunately is still palpable in some gyms to this day. I won't even mention names of some well known black belts talking mad about Eddie and the system during their seminars. They all somehow figured a long time ago how to crush all the techniques that pothead nonsense... as well as focusing on only a few aspects of it instead of looking at the system as a whole.
Today it isn't as bad as it used to be but you'd be a fool to think that everybody is embracing it! The Jiu Jitsu community in NZ has a pretty big percentage of Brazilian instructors and dudes coming from black belts that don't regard the system as valuable.
NZ is also Gi country, I've been teaching no gi for roughly 4 years now. To my knowledge I'm still the only one in the country exclusively teaching it. In those more "traditional" schools you might see a bit more reticence towards the system.
PS: I just woke up so I apologize for just touching on the subject. I think that's what Shin and Isaac were trying to let you know about the state of jiu jitsu here.
Ya John Thank you for all your positive feed back.
I will keep that in mind.
My progress is slow in terms of jiu jitsu.
Just got my 3rd stripes yesterday.
One step closer to blue belt and one step closer to shake bait which will be like 20min of chain rolling.
This scared me having witness how brutal it was.
thank all
