My 7 year old SON got detention for standing up to the class bully…

This was the second time BB (bully boy) had messed with Baby.

According to the school principal…

“Baby tackled another student and held him to the ground immobilizing his head in
response to the student slapping Baby after Baby kicked him during the normal
course of a soccer game.
Both boys were counseled regarding appropriate behavior choices.
Baby specifically
about removing himself from the situation and seeking help rather than tackling.
Baby will miss 3 days of recess.
Per ed code: Further occurrences of this behavior may result in suspension.”

I asked Baby if he had kicked BB, as his Principal had stated, and he said that he had NOT.
He also mentioned that, actually, BB had kicked him.

On their first encounter, while in kindergarten, BB punched Baby, and made him cry.
After that incident, while driving back home, we spoke about what had happened.
I let Baby know that this kind of thing happens often, but not to ever be afraid.
Instead, to make sure to react.

Here's what Baby said, about the second occasion BB had bullied him, and how he reacted...

Baby was caught off guard by the slap, but checked the kick with his forearms, he said the kid's kick was super slow, timed it and pushed it back. haha.
After he checked the kick, he dropped down to a double leg, and immediately took side control. The bully tried to head butt him, so Baby isolated the kid's head, immobilizing him until he calmed down.
I'm so proud of my son, he executed our game plan perfectly, and he demonstrated tremendous composure and restraint.
BB was lucky Baby knows enough NOT to hurt other kids.

Baby has been training since he was 2 1/2 years old. He has trained in gymnastics, boxing, thai boxing, taekwondo, wrestling, and jiujitsu.

If you sons goes to the principle and says this boy slapped him will that boy be suspended from recess for 3 days?

Good for your son he delt with a bully. Its a good lesson for life, sometimes doing the right thing gets you in more trouble then doing nothing, but its always the right thing to stand up for your morals and then live with the consequences.

i got kicked out of two daycares for fighting. It dosent mean shit, you just do the detention, go to the next school/daycare and wait for the next fight.

My dad taught me to fight not run to the teacher for help and thats what i did. If they want to punish him just remember, once you get your HS diploma nothing of that shit matters one bit.

Its cool you taught your kid to kindly restrain their enemies, my dad taught me ground and pound. First kid had to go to the hospital cause his nose wouldn't stop bleeding, mofo was about to knock down my little brothers milk crate fort, thats war.:)

It's a technicality. They HAD to give some sort of punishment to show zero tolerance for "violence."

It's crazy how things are so different. I used to fight in school starting in kindergarten and only got in trouble once cuz I gave the kid a bloody nose. Now you can't even make lego guns without getting suspended.

But big props to your kid.

The principal gave Baby 3 days detention during lunch, and BB got 7 days.

I have always told Baby, that if anyone EVER touches him in a threatening manner, he has every right to protect himself.
And that I will always back him up, and defend him and his actions at school.

This kid got off easy, Baby was attacked by another kid on another occasion.
One of his "friends" tried to break his fingers, Baby said he had no time to think, and his arm just reacted.
He said that, before he knew it, his right arm came up, and punched the kid in the mouth. Baby busted the kids mouth and was quickly released.
I let him know I was proud of him.
That he had done the right thing, it couldn't be helped, and that that it was what I would have done.

Kids are so mean now days. Good for you and Baby! I think as a kid you have to let the other kids know that you're not one to be messed with.

I spoke with his 2nd grade teacher today...

She said Baby could not go around defending himself when people strike him. WTF?
And, I don't mean World Taekwondo Federation. haha

She said, "if kids go around defending themselves, that would create many more problems. and we can't allow that."

Wow...
I explained that, in the REAL WORLD, boys have to establish a pecking order.
Otherwise, the fighting will continue to escalate. And BB will not stop his destructive behavior, unless someone puts him in his place.
I let her know that I have taught Baby to control the other kid, and avoid hurting them.
But, that he has the means to end the fight decisively.

She told me to talk to the principal, as it was her referral.

The crazy thing is that BAby is a small 7 year old. he is only 3'10" all of 40 pounds. The bully is at least 50 pounds, and a couple of inches taller. Baby is a popular little guy, girls fight over him, and other kids have actually said, "I wish i was you."

So I let him know he has a good life and that bullies come and go, and that this is why we train. For that one day you have some fool step up and test you.

I already let him know that the 3rd time BB messes with him...

He needs to put him in his place, and that a couple of strikes would be in order. It's not up to me to safeguard the BB's safety.
I don't like little guys getting hurt, but when you have it coming, it shouldn't be a surprise when someone returns the favor.

The government does not want kids like Baby in the school system. They want Baby to rely on the school system for help and protection. Training them to not protect themselves as adults and rely on government when they are older.

Yes it is... Baby Diammante, more of a stage/cage name. haha

I'm a single dad, he is only 7 so I'd rather keep his name out... and his mother disapproves of his training.

Baby has a younger cousin that is much bigger than he, and his family lives with my ex.
Baby has already put him in his place, they no longer fight.
The pecking order has been established, and the cousin knows he can't take on Baby.
Nowadays, when they can't solve their "problems", they stop arguing and go their separate ways, until cooler heads prevail.

This is a repeat offense for BB. He is a chronic offender. The system did nothing to deter the second DOCUMENTED unwarranted attack.

I am OK if he gets in "trouble" when he defends himself.

My father died when I was 9 years old, I came to the U.S. when I was 9 1/2, I was raised by a single mother that felt I should never fight. Instead, I should turn the other cheek as Jesus had done. Yeah... That doesn't work quite as well as advertised.

I am Latino, I used to live in Compton growing up, you know the more "affluent" part of L.A. And, I used to get picked on by random kids looking for a way to entertain themselves.

I will not allow Baby suffer helplessly, waiting for a system to kick in and do its job of "protecting" him.

Im glad he had the confidence to stand up for himself.

I lived in a canadian version of the ghetto growing up and would get jumped after school everyday for two years. The first couple weeks I kicked the shit out of the people attacking me then my mom was all thats not what jesus would do. So i wasnt allowed to fight and got my ass kicked for the rest of the two years.

Until he started attacking me with sticks and i decided it was better to get in trouble then get my ass kicked each days and I seriously beat the the crap out of that kid so bad with the stick he tried to use on me that they should have arrested me. But he never bullied me again.

Its better to stop this BB now then later, if you ignore shit it gets worse not better.

The crazy thing is that... I used to live in Compton when I was a kid.
Baby and I live in a decent neighborhood, and his distinguished school is predominantly asian, followed by white, Latino, with a few black students.

The only reason I'm aware of all these happenstance, is that I volunteer my time and I'm privy to the daily tribulations he endures. And he's only 7!

I'm glad to see you got my motivation for posting his story.
Just good to see he will be doing things the way I wish I had.

I have taught my son the same way you are doing. He is ALWAYS within his rights to protect himself. Zero tolerance is not going to teach the kids anything but to depend on other people for their own well being. I guess he is suppose to just stand there and get beat up?!! Our society is trying to teach everyone that there is no self responsibility for anything. You don't have a job? That's someone else's fault. No money? Others should give you theirs.
I have told my son to take the bully down and control them. Make sure they know you could do anything to them you wanted, but that you have enough self control not to punch them. That is why I started my son with Jiu Jitsu and not some other martial art.

Baby on baby crime is down thanks to Jiu Jitsu :-)

I had the good fortune of meeting and rolling with "this skinny Brazilian", you might recognize his name Royce Gracie, after he won the 4th UFC. That was my introduction to BJJ.
During the mid 90's, I took private lessons from a Rixon Gracie purple belt.
I have trained at several BJJ clubs. I started my traditional jiu jit su quest in the late '90s, at Beverly Hills jiu jitsu, with master Vinicius. Alas, it did not last, I found Bas Rutten was teaching in the same studio and I jumped ship. I found the BJJ methods of the day, too passive for my taste.

Later I trained in Carson with Professor Caique, great guy, and instructor.

I am VENTING at the sad state our school system is in. Punish the victim, really? And, I'm putting myself out there, by introducing you to my son through his tribulations. My day to day is pretty tame, basic routine, if you're a parent you soon realize your life belongs to your kids.

I was bullied when I was a kid, As I'm sure most of us were, in one form or another. And now my son is experiencing the same trials most of us wished we had been better prepared to handle. I take pride in knowing he is prepared to contend with those fools, that have to build their ego at the expense of those smaller than them.

I took private lessons from a Rixon Gracie purple belt, and while in his guard I asked him... What is the best way to defend against strikes from the guard? He had no response, aside from, "we don't strike in jiu jitsu.
It wasn't till I found 10th planet that I had an viable answer.

I am more involved in MMA, but I appreciate the finesse of a fight ending submission.

Damn Compella dropping knowledge haymakers!!!!!

Had a student separate another kids retina after getting stabbed in the leg with a pencil on the bus. Three Punches and it was over.This kid had been an issue for some time and the school offer no solution. It got all they way to court since Nate was "trained" they sued. The Judge had the good sense to notice the kid that did the stabbing and suffered the shots to the eye had 100 pounds on Nate and threw it out.

The Moral of the story is.
If your 8th grader is a dirt bag that picks on 6th graders when he finds out the little guys fist fits right in his eye socket I think the doctor bills are on you.
