Rubber Guard Grip

So I've been experimenting with Rubber Guard lately and sticking to the traditional path (Mission Control>New York>Chill Dog>Kung Fu Move>Omoplata) but I had a couple questions about grips while doing it, specifically when I'm in Mission Control, am I grabbing my shin palm up or palm down? I know (I'm a white belt, so please read as assume) that it should be a C grip but I didn't know if the direction mattered. If it does, would someone be willing to shed light on why? Also, if the grips have different benefits for different paths, please feel free to explain as well. I know it's a pretty obscure detail, but I've learnt that in JJ it's the minute details that matter most.

In mission control, you're palm up under your shin near your ankle. It is not a c grip, I think you are referring to cupping whilst tossing someone into spider web. Also I did not hear you mention the zombie, which is really important in mission control and you won't really be in New York unless you do, you'll end up lost in New Jersey ;). Hope that helps!

Yeah, I glossed over the zombie and kung fu move. If it's not a C grip then which grip is it, are you using your thumb there?

No thumb, just a fist with palm facing towards you. Also, just as important is to hug your knee with the other arm.

Yeah curled fist or monkey grip, no thumb. Check the MTS guide the details are all there ;)

It's going to feel more like your wrist is holding it in place than your hand. The wrist should also be in the middle of the heel and the shin bone, not before the shin bone IMO. You want to use more of your wrist like this because then the foot rests on the structure of your forearm and your not using as much strength to hold your foot in place. The hand then will curl down from the top and hold as much as it still can.

You're also going to turn your wrist sideways a bit so that it again rests the foot on the structure of your radius and not on your strength to curl your foot towards you.

I need to do a video for this because I think it's something that's not covered very much and many new guys struggle with. I see many mostly newer RG players putting the foot/shin in the palm of their hand. This then forces you to use a lot of forearm and curl strength to maintain mission control. Which shouldn't be the case.

Usually palm up, wrist to ankle but I do play palm down, hand to instep sometimes too, when playing the weak side

Thanks for the reply Master Eddie, would you mind explaining in which scenario you use each grip? Like do you go palm up to go a certain path and palm down to specifically go this route, or is it just kind of a whatever you feel like doing at the time type of deal?
