Placed 1st today! (Videos)

So today I was finally able to compete again (after skipping some tournaments because of an elbow bursitis).
The event was called "Das Battle 2012" and I got 1st place in my category (Beginner -70 kg).



My teammate usually cut off the video before I showed the final gang sign after my wins, but I dropped some extra here and there. If you don't like spoilers (I usually dont like if people put results in the Video title, its kills the suspense :D), you should watch the videos now and scroll down later

First fight, once I got swept I went straight to jiu-claw and wanted to finish with a Hazellet, but my opponent pinned my pants to the ground so i lost it (illegal move! whatever). So I had to go Marcello style and arm drag him to RNC :D

Second fight, I heard my teammate shout arm-drag (I usually always pull half-guard) so I armdragged and got the takedown. I was able to pull off my favorite move, the modified Japanese necktie (I call this variation German Necktie haha, bash me all you want :P). If your interested I can break it down further as it's hard to see. That's the only move I catch higher belts with, and I got it from the regular JNT (yay MTS).


Third fight, pulled HG, sweep, all I was thinking is another necktie. Lost control so I tried a Gogoplata. He turned his head so it became a neckcrank. Since they were illegal I tried a triangle instead, but couldn't tap him. From backmount I unhocked and went to truck to calf crusher (MTS again!). He didnt want to tap and unfortunately I hurt his leg. But I did give him enough time, even released pressure when his coach was complaining.


Also, there were some other people doing rubber guard. Some guy with Aoki Pants was doing good and placed 1st and in the Grand Champion Division another guy took 2nd by New York to Triangle.

I know it shouldnt but it always gives me confidence when the person i have to fight is wearing a football (soccer for you guys lol) t shirt and shorts lol

Yea if you don't drill that one yet, you miss out on a lot of sub opportunities. IMO the most underutilized move in BJJ (at least where I train). And there are so many setups for it. Became my favorite move pretty fast and is now probably responsible for 50% of my subs during rolling, some people in my gym even stop going for underhooks on me from bottom half :D
