[Intro] From a non-10th planet school, saying hello, others like me?

Hi all,

I'm a 1-stripe brown belt at an American Top Team school. Just signed up to the site mainly for the forum and technique section (which is a bit confusing, but I'll get the hang of it). Just wanted say hello, and was wondering if anyone else from a non-10th planet is here and has incorporated the system into their game/own school's curriculum. To be honest, it was the Bravo v Royler 2 that got me interested. Started playing with the lockdown half but have felt lacking in instruction, got Eddie's 1st book, now signed up here. How does everybody else do it? Any sites/books/to recommend. (For example, I can't seem to find the half-guard sweeps on the techniques part of this site and would really want that whole sequence.) Thanks all.

Cool. Eddies books are a big help of course. I started with Jiu Jitsu Unleashed. Still my favorite to this day. Covers the basics of the lockdown. And Mastering the Rubber Guard DVD's

Just found the technique guide with links to where in the MTS(?) it is located. Awesome. Just what I was looking for. Thanks guys.

Are you allowed to do neck cranks at your place? We aren't at mine, so I'll need to adjust for some of that. Any adjustments you've done because you're barred to do certain leg locks, etc.?

First of all, welcome! It is always an honor to have open minded grapplers contributing here. We all want the same thing, so it's cool to see people like you coming by and being willing to share your knowledge with us and hopefully expand yourself, as well.

If the lockdown is your primary interest right now, my biggest recommendation would be to spend lots of reps on the dipset. Whip up, whip down, whip up, whip down, lather, rinse, repeat. Without getting your timing and sensitivity down in that regard, all of the lockdown stuff will continue to stay just outside your grasp against good players.

I'm allowed to do everything during sparring aslong as I don't go too far and know when to let go. My professor is close with his students and trusts them. I'm even allowed to do bicep slicers and calf slicers if I use incredible caution. Only thing I'm not allowed to do is throw my foot over someone else's during leg locks because it can cause serious injury to the leg. I just place the foot on the hip for adjustments. Since vaporizers don't really cause unintentional pain to any other parts of the leg, I can use it.
