    Washington DC, places to train?

    Hey guys,

One of my students and friends is in DC for the summer and he is looking for a place to train his jiu jitsu?

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

STROGA has Jeff Melvin who is an awesome guy and is 10P friendly. Not sure if he is on the forum or not though. I went to an Einstein seminar there a little back, and I've competed in the same tournaments as Jeff a few times.

Where in DC exactly? Near a metro?

Your student (and everyone else on here) is welcome to stop by my gym any time. We are next to the Spring Hill station on the Silver Line metro at 8500 Tyco Road in Vienna.

We do no-gi on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8-930pm.

Haha, more of a pun on my last name, Raedy, which gets misspelled or auto-corrected to Ready all the time.

I think I am equally strong, gi and no gi. I started wrestling and jiu jitsu at the same time, so I always trained both. Since I was always splitting time, I approached gi through the lense that Marcelo talks about a lot, making sure your techniques are applicable to both.

However, I might lean towards no-gi, because in the past couple of years I think over reliance on the gi has reached a ridiculous level. That and the fact I really like heel hooks and reaping, which are not allowed with the gi on.
