Anyone had this problem with their ribs?

I've been training for the last four months, rolling and drilling with no problems for the first two and a half months. I rolled three days in a row at one point, with there being a pain in my ribs after the first of these three days. It hasn't left since and I've taken the last month off to rest, zero exercise, just light stretching and yoga. I even went to my doctor, with them prescribing anti-inflammatory lotion. So for the last week my ribs have been fine, the pain I had when I turned a certain way and when I took deep breaths, was gone.

But after my first session back on the mats, it's back, and worse than ever. There's no bruising that I can see, just a slight red marking. I'm getting it x-rayed in a few days and would really like to know does anyone out there have any experience with this type of injury?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

see if its actually intercostal muscles(between ribs) rather than the bones themselves, any 'accessory' movements-laughing,breathing etc. these will cause pain as the whole thorax is moving as a unit, get gp to check if any signs of arthritic changes.............
    if no joy,request thoracic specialist.
    swift recovery.

I have slight scelosis (sry sp) so every now and then I'll get rib/side aches here and there. Usually I'll combat it with stretching icing and making sure I call the doctor when it gets heavier. In ur case def sounds different, so I'd be sure to check in about getting x-rays to be certain.

    Hope things work out....

Iv had some rib poblems last year, serious dude you have to rest. Fuck me i didn't realise how much you use your ribs, i meen everything involes them! i rested mine for 2 months then thained for a month, then competed like a wise arse and poped them again when got off a butterfly sweep. it took a huge chunk of mat time off me so if i was you id just drill at 20% till they are 100% better.

see if its actually intercostal muscles(between ribs) rather than the bones themselves
    thats what happend to me.

If you don't have a fracture in your rib, it's most probably "Separated Rib." It's where the connective tissue that connects a rib to to your intercostal muscle/s detaches. It takes a long time to heal. Some symptoms are if it hurts when you do a situp type movement, laugh, cough, etc. It can take someone out of commission for weeks, or months depending on how well you rest it and if you don't re aggravate it. Good luck brother. Injury is a part of any sport unfortunately. Just heal up as quickly and well as possible. If you treat your body well, it'll treat you well back.

Great responses, I give you all more props than my G.P.! I'll keep the intercostal muscle/separated rib in mind whenever I see the doc' again. I don't mind drilling for a few months. I'll take the next two weeks off and get into drilling and give rolling a rest for a couple months, maybe three, haha.

Thanks again for all the help.

Where at in the ribs? I had a bruised/possibly more serious than that, sternum from this guy cpr'ing me when I first started. Couldn't breath right for a week or two and had to take roughly a month off. It can still get a little inflamed when I get smashed by pressure guys too many times in a week and will pop from time to time when I stretch. I say just get warmed up and work your top game more when it's hurting. The beautiful thing about injuries is they sometimes force you to open your game up.

Brandon Mc had some fucked up shit happen to his ribs a while back... he would roll some even though it was against my medical advice But, for real, this sounds kinda like what he went through (if I remember correctly). Maybe he'll hop on this thread.

That's a great way of looking at it, I'll most certainly keep that in mind.

Deep and moderate breathing, twisting, coughing, sneezing, stretching, bending. There's no crunching or popping at all.

Also, when I was rolling yesterday I wasn't caught in any neck cranks or chokes, I drilled a couple though. But now my neck is in a lot of pain, it's very stiff and the sensation is akin to whiplash. Anyone out there know what might be the problem with it?

Again, I really appreciate all the help.
