Cool conversation i had today with my instructor regarding Eddie/10th planet...

Hey guys,

So basically, i joined a new club about 2 months ago after having 8 weeks off injured (and my old school closed down).

Anyway, my bjj coach is a traditional Brazilian guy named Valmyr Neto(was awarded his black belt back in 2005 by Walter Brocca, and our team VNteam has just linked up with checkmat), he is really really cool guy, a real good dude, a fucking beast on the mats, but i knew from what the other students told me he wasn't exactly a huge fan of Eddie and the 10p system. However, i decided to NOT treat my love for all things 10th planet as a dirty little secret, and have been totally honest about it with him the whole time. May not work out for everybody else, but it is how i wanted to do things, i didn't want anyone to be questioning my loyalties and all that shit.

So since i got back from Eddies seminar Sweden he has been asking me a few things, about how the seminar went etc etc. Then today we are chatting and he says to me in his brilliant Brazilian accent 'Do you have any 10th planet t-shirts, i would really like one so i can wear it', then he starts saying about Eddie seems cool, his desire to have Eddie in for a seminar if Eddie comes to England again etc, i was fucking blown away, and i think so were a few of the other students. At the same time, i was thinking how fucking lucky i am to have a coach as open minded as i do. It's awesome.
I am going to personally buy him a 10th planet t-shirt once Eddie has the shop figured out.

Just thought i would share that with you as it was a pretty cool moment in my day.

That is an awesome story! You are so far beyond lucky. My instructor is coming around, kinda, in that he lets me play around with techniques without talking too much crap, and likes to taunt me about it, but in a playful way. Then again, if I bought him a 10th Planet T-shirt, I'm pretty sure he'd make me eat it! Enjoy your training!

Thanks guys, the other thing i forgot to mention was it 'opened the floodgates' in a way, people were openly saying, 'eddie is the man' and stuff like that. Hoping a few more of the guys start playing with the system here now, that would be awesome. :-)

Well it is not like i have been using much of the system with heaps of success on my training partners, and right now i am one of the smaller guys in a gym full of big and more experienced guys, however i am persevering with it. So I was glad he took an interest. If nothing else, at least he is not anti-10th planet, and he NEVER moans or criticizes me for using (or attempting to at least LOL) the 10th planet system. So its all good. :-)

Did he ask you to bring some condiments with the t-shirt? Maybe he's gonna make you eat it in front of the class for daring to use that 10th Planet shit. ;) It is crazy when you are made to feel like some sort of outcast for daring to use anything 10th Planet. My instructors are all cool with 10P and my long time instructors have been to a few Eddie Bravo seminars, but there are always a few assassins waiting in the wings to tell you that you got tapped because you were trying to use 10th Planet and it doesn't work. Even after you twister someone there are a lot of haters to tell you that it wasn't really a tap because it is a banned move in competition.
