Looks like Springfield is the closest Moon. Only a few hours away and well worth the trip to go and train with Brian. I cant tell you how much my game improved from train with Brain and all the Killers in Springfield.
I just moved to KC as well, so I'd be happy to train with you. As for gyms, so far I know that lone wolf mma in platte city trains 10p and kcbjj is at least tolerant, I know AJ from the forum trains there. I've been thinking about setting up a hotbox (I have the matches, just no location so far). Still trying out other gyms
I'm in KC and make the drive to Springfield a couple times a week if anyone wants to carpool, although I am temporary out of commission waiting on a hernia surgery to heal up. KCBJJ has the deepest talent pool and is the best place to train in town but the guys in Springfield are an awsome group of guys and great training partners, and Brian is a great, very detail oriented instructor. I'm on the north side of KC and I've got 10x10 feet of mats and plenty of space and am always down for some jitz, also.
Forum member AJ Camacho lives close too you.
Thomas and/or andrew..I'd love to get together and roll some, anytime you guys feel like rolling hit me up
573-820-0498, anyone else in the area as well
Lone wolf is legit. Blake and Jeremy are blue belts of mine. I'll actually be teaching there July 21st, it would be dope to see some kc guys there
Derek, which location will you be at? St. Joe or Platte City?
I just moved from Warrensburg and I used to train at Warrior Jujitsu for over 3 years. It's an MMA oriented school with a grappling base in Judo, Sambo, and japanese jujitsu. It's a great gym and they definitely do not hate on rubber guard. The coach there, Billy Matheny, actually attended a 10th Planet seminar out in Springfield. It's not his game but Billy always encouraged me with any and all of my grappling development.
That being said, they are not focused on no gi submission grappling as a sport unto itself, I think 10th Planet Springfield excels in that department. They are a great group of guys over at Warrior but the gym hours can be limiting (no morning or noon classes) with the class schedule split between MMA and jujitsu classes.
I am currently training at KCBJJ now though, since I currently live in Lenexa KS. KCBJJ is pure jiujitsu, gi and no gi. Those guys are at the heart of the KC jiujitsu scene and they have the talent pool to show it. It's definitely been an awesome but challenging skill adjustment but I'm thankful to have found such a great gym.
Also, I don't know if you have access to Whiteman Air Force base but I heard that there's a Machado Purple Belt who teaches on base.
Yeah, i actually work on Whiteman, I think the purple belts name is Tim. I have rolled with a few of his guys before. I have also checked out warrior jj a couple times while i was here.
Ill probably try to get over to KC and check out KCBJJ sometime in the near future.
