I just started a new strength/mass lifting routine yesterday after not lifting for 2 months, so I'm extremely sore today (squat/bench/deadlift sore). I'd like to do my stretching for the day which will undoubtedly be very painful, should I skip the stretching today, is that bad pain, or just pain I have to deal with and stretching will still be ok? I'm really just wondering if it will help recovery or hurt recovery. Anyone know?
No definately stretch, it is what we call DOMS in the business (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) the stretching will be painful but will help.
Crazy, just started deadlifts yesterday and my back is destroyed! Haven't lifted a proper weight routine for about 2 years, its horrible. Doing some yoga tonight definitely helped
I would still stretch. It will hurt but it will help you get over being sore faster in my opinion.
yeah stretching after you lift is great for getting rid of that soreness. especially immediately after, but also later in the day again as well. stretching right after you lift keeps the blood flowing to the muscles, which obviously helps carry more nutrients to your broken down muscles. once you start to loosen them back up, they shouldnt feel too bad.
