Looking for pointers that focus on the initial start when sparring, transitions, common mistakes. etc...
I dunno since in class we start from a knee I don't like to go for takedowns from the knees. Just seems silly to me. I usually just pull butterfly guard and work my transitions to sweep or to pyramid or to rg or even to half guard. And if my partner pulls guard that's great for me cause then I get to work my guard passes.
what brent said. just pull guard.
Eddie has been preaching that quarter clinch a lot, too. if the guy won't just jump in your guard, look for that. you should have a ton of material on where to go from there if you are watching MTS.

I try to lock an overhook right away. Most people go for the double unders so its pretty easy. I got a few a few options from there but flying kung fu is money.
arm drag or knee tap, if you really want to end up on top.
