Just received my DVD but got hit for £20 (about $35) import duty- the rate was particularly high because the declared value was unnecessarily listed as $100 whereas I had in fact only paid $49.99.
Anyone else hit?

I know that bullshit feeling man, got charged £17 from customs when i bought a bottle of Alpha Brain.
Yeah i got hit by it as well, but i guess thats the chance you take when you order stuff from overseas.
They would have charged you that amount even if Eddie had of written it down as a gift. It really is totally out of his hands.
I have never paid less than around £20 import duty when recieving packages from the USA. Seems to be their minimum charge. :-)
I am surprised you say that Sam.
I have very rarely paid duty and never when the face value of a DVD is written down as $5-10 including from mainstream
suppliers.
I would not expect the DVD to be described as a gift but the rules as to gifts are different
Obviously I accept the risk and if duty is payable so be it but listing the value as $100 simply increased the duty payable.
