I'm not a big fan of energy drinks to do a workout. I like them if I'm going to coach or teach, but not for rolling/sparring.
It's not for me. It gets me nervous more than it gives me energy. I gas out sooner too.
Maybe for lifting it's good.
Being sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drinks we sell an absolute shit ton of these, some are zero sugar some aren't.
As with most things, caffeine plus sugar, or caffeine alone will effect different people differently. There's absolutely a time and a place for them, me personally if it is a class on the evening after an ultra busy day then a Rockstar is just the ticket to keep my mind on what I am doing on the mat- we all know the feeling of just not wanting to be there after a mentally challenging day; yet conversely for me personally too much caffeine on an empty stomach can be a big mistake and make me not want to train at all.
On the scale of things we have many guys like Mick our coach who seems to be able drink them like water without any negative effect and conversely one or two who for whatever reason cannot even be in the same room as caffeine without developing some sort of sleeping disorder.
Horses for courses. I would always make sure there's something lining my belly before downing one, but as a very health savvy gym operator would never discourage someone from buying one; otherwise we never would have affiliated ourselves with a company like Rockstar.
On the whole easily a good 90 plus percent of guys buying the drinks feel the benefits of the mental focus rather than any negative side effects. We always stock sugar free to give that choice especially to fighters getting their weight down but even with the sugary varieties as long as its part of a well balanced diet on the whole I see no problem with them. Hope this helps!
The sweating thing is probably down to caffeine being a diuretic, encouraging your body to rid water ie dry itself out. Again a lined belly and supplementing your liquid intake with water will go a long way to remedy this.
1. Gallon of water throughout the day.
2. Blue Rockstar (or 2 Scoops of Advocare Spark in a 20oz bottle of water) and 2 Shroomtech Sports a half hour before practice.
3. Good times.
You better be serious about that water, though.
Thanks for all your info
This helps a lot
I think there has been more and more topics of Caffeine Not being diuretic unless you consume large amounts of it (5+ cups) .
Thats interesting, it does slightly contradict my own experience of caffeine (I used to drink black coffee every morning in the lead up to the weighin of my fights) so I've always assumed it was working, would be very interesting if it turned out not to be true. But not the first time!
For me it's either a blue Pom xyience or a monster rojo tea. I usually drink it 30 minutes to an hour before training, but I'll tell you what...I just started drinking coconut water through out the day and my training session as well. I can roll a lot longer because apparently it hydrates you quicker. I still drink my energy drink before training, but I always eat something with it. I stay away from coffee drinks though, tried that once for three days in a row...I was up every night til 4am and it took me a week to come down. So those are a no go for me.
