Japanese Necktie/Lockdown

Is the jap necktie high percentage when your partner has the lockdown double under hooks ? Go-to move from top half? Vice versa What saves your ass from the bottom? Whip up, dog fight, etc?

That's true bro, very true!!

It's hard for the guy on bottom to unlock the lockdown when the guy on too dives for the necktie. I think it's a little tighter than too guy just triangling his legs

Timing is always a major factor

The issue you're asking about, at its core, is arm depth. It's pretty difficult for a player with an average build to get a nice deep vice grip in if his opponent is under him utilizing the lockdown correctly (ie not only holding on to the leg but re-positioning the top man's entire body 'downward' toward the feet). If you're tall and lanky, though, or have longer arms, and you can cinch in a nice solid vice grip while still in the lockdown, then there's nothing stopping you from hitting a Japanese Necktie from that position. At that point, as Jeremy Gates pointed out, the bottom man's lockdown is going to start working against him in a hurry because the entire goal of the bottom man at that point would be to get his legs free.

I got into this situation this weekend at an event called "Bjj at the beach", it was fun. Been trying to upload some photo's, but it doesn't seem to work. Any advice on this? Every time i try, i get this red icon with a "!" on it. I've tried .jpg, .gif, .png, ...
Anyway, i noticed he was trying to get his arm through to get the vice grip, did the whip down before his hands connected. That forced him to post that hand on the mat. Pulled of a nice 5 0 sweep. Even got a pic of me doing this :). Gonna make it my avatar pic for now, since i can't post it here.
