Stop grabbing your opponent's head.
I thought he was trying to control the head to land elbows, similar to what GSP does with his can opener. That's the kind of thing the basic armbar is made for. The difference seems to be that GSP respects that armbar and lets go when his opponent changes his hips. I don't believe Henderson thought Pettis could catch him with something that simple. Over confident in his defense, maybe? Either way, it was beautiful.
What Pettis did that most people don't do is to control the angle of Henderson's wrist so that he was attacking the elbow the entire time. You can see him twisting the wrist from inside the lock.
Really basic setup, with really small details that made it work against a guy who NEVER gets submitted. It was awesome.
THE GUARD AIN'T DEAD
dont let someone get high guard with both arms on the mat :) was deff a legit armbar I was suprised not to see him stack and circle more.
Wow right after he got his BJJ Black Belt and right after he got invited to ADCC. Submitted by a striking specialist with a very basic set up to an Armbar. Well this just got awkward...
Yeah.. I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw that.
I didn't think of it as getting caught in a basic armbar, but getting caught in a cleanly executed armbar. Crazy stuff happens at the lowest on through to the highest levels, especially when strikes are involved.
Part of it could have been BH not respecting his game as well. I've learned the hard way, when the stakes are high, you had better respect the other person's game- they may just surprise you.
Still a big BH fan! He ain't going nowhere.
I loved that arm bar setup!
He crossed his feet and still got the armbar - a million BJJ coaches can be wrong!
