Martial arts and magic
I am watching "Deceptive Practices" a documentary about illusionist Ricky Jay, and it's really bringing back the parallels between martial arts and magic that I discussed with Master James Keating over a decade ago.
The big difference is that unlike Kali, which like magic is about visual misdirection, Jiu Jitsu is about tactile misdirection. Regardless of the method of deception (or leading them down the golden path as Keating put it) the simplest trick (or technique) will be the most successful if you have the ability to draw the awareness right where you want.

That's a trip you brought this up 'cause I was thinking the same thing, but for football. It would be interesting if a killer/successful magician worked with a team, collectively coming up with creative visual and tactile misdirections for their offense and defense. I think the magician would approach it from outside the box, which would give the players/coach different angles and perspectives on their plays.
Definitely can see it in martial arts.
