fighting off a "meat hook" type thing after pulling deep half?

So i noticed the general reaction at the school i train isnt anything ive ever really scene on youtube or competitions. Leads me to assume its an inferior way of fighting the deep half and that i might be missing something fundamental to beat it. But yeah when i pull deep half they sit to their butt and then try to lock up a triangle But it ends being more like pseudo new jersey or meathook situation because ikeep the leg trapped. They will even try to rotate over top of me kind of taking my back. I usually just Bullshit my way out somehow. But im not sure how im doing it. Any of you guys play DHG run into this type of shit? how do you beat it? is there an easier way than just wrassslin your way through?

Very common reaction. I'd say 75% of the time I set up my deep half guys will sit down and try to triangle. As soon as they sit back they're giving up the sweep so just go with it. Really control that leg though so they can't pull off the triangle. Also that sets you up for two different types of passes. One is the over/under pass and the other is the double under (baby wipe). So they're basically giving you the sweep and the pass is only one step away. Really control the hip too when you come up off the sweep.

Its more common at our school for the opponent on top in deep half to jump a kimura grip but I have seen plenty of triangles as well. In either case I use the same defense. the inside arm (the one closest to their crotch is placed under the leg of the man on top to protect it (instead of huggin the leg with both arms or leaving it free). at this point if they jump a triangle you end up in a baby wipe pass. It also takes away the kimura for the most part because they cant make the connection with your arm under their leg.

As a side note...my outside arm usually wraps around his hip in deep half to keep better control and to help with waiter type sweeps etc. Also think about elevating your opponents leg with your hooks to keep him off balance in this position and to keep him off the offensive. I use this a lot to set up sweeps and leg locks and to stop his offense.
