Does anyone have any tips on developing a good squeeze for RNC's and Guilotines?
Steroids. Alternatively if done right, you don't really need a monster squeeze for either of those techniques. I believe it's more the technique. For arm triangles, regular triangles, I would say YES. Squeeze is more important. But doing it right, is more important.
Eddie is big on squeeze. Just practice squeezing, bro.
hmm broad question. every choke is a slightly different squeeze. for rear naked chokes, I would say with the hand behind his head, push forward and down, then with your other arm, try to have your shoulder and wrist touch each other and then flex your bicep last. For a darce or arm triangle, I always use the rear naked choke grip. You squeeze inward and then try to touch your elbows together. For guillotines, I also try to drive my shoulder into my wrist. also, remember to always be as tight as possible before squeezing on any choke, keep your elbows attached to your body, and be aware of where the pressure is and aim for the carotid artery. If it doesn't work, you probably aren't doing it correctly. Understand how to do moves correctly before drilling, so you don't drill a move that doesn't work.
Take a look at the "Eddie Bravo On..." series (sticky at the top). He shows how to work on your squeeze by RNCing your own leg. Sit down and draw your foot in as close to your butt as you can. Let's say you're using your left leg. Now wrap your left arm around your left knee as though it were a neck (the inside of your elbow against your shin). Bring your right arm in across your thigh in the standard RNC position. The finishing technique is squeezing your elbows together and drawing them tight to your chest. Work on your endurance by ratcheting up the pressure and increasing the amount of time you hold the squeeze for. Also, squeezing medicine balls for time will really improve your clinch.
Another thing to work on is not loosening the choke when you breathe (or forgetting to breathe at all). Coach always uses the analogy of a winch. The choke should always be getting tighter and never loosen. The way I do it is: Breathe in and tighten to about 30-40%. As you breathe out tighten that up to about 50%. Breathe in, AND KEEP IT AT 50%. Breathe out and tighten to 60%. Breathe in and keep it at 60%. Breathe out, 70%, breathe in maintain at 70%. Etc, etc. What's key is that you maintain that squeeze when you breathe in. That way your constricting like a snake. A snake always waits for it's victim to exhale then it clinches even tighter. It keeps doing that until the victim can no longer inhale at all. Same thing with your choke. Tighten, breathe, tighten, breathe -- don't ever loosen and don't hold your breath. You'll find that if you maintain your squeeze while breathing in, it actually gets tighter as your expanding chest takes up more space. The trick is not to let that chest expansion allow you to loosen the choke.

Mr. Green could you elaborate on the Marcelo grip? I saw in that vid with Einstein that he used his knee and shin at one point to break the grip Marcelo had on his wrist.
My squeeze still probably sucks and the only times where I don't blow it are when I'm 80% mentally focused on just squeezing the hell out of my opponent. Bad analogy ahead...
It's sort of like trying to change a CD while you're driving your car. Most people have 100% focus; alternating it between changing the CD and driving the car, the car veering to the side every time they duck their head down to look for a disc. The correct way to change the disc is to apply 80% of your attention to driving the car while badly and blindly fumbling around for a CD, trying to stick it into the player. Fucking up the disc change won't kill you but fucking up the steering will, so don't worry about fucking up the disc change.
Back to rubber guard, fucking up the squeeze blows your guard but fumbling with your leg like a palsy retard while squeezing like hell won't. So just mentally focus on doing nothing but squeezing them and hope that your drills and muscle memory will execute the technique.
(That bad CD analogy just made me feel old.)
The choke isnt deep (under the armpit) like a normal guillotine) its shallow (forearm right under the throat) and u have to grip your wrist and use your forearm to block his defense and him moving forward into you....ill be teaching it at the seminar in NC...but its bad ass bro. Marcelo is the man
