Amazing how difficult it is some times to pull off technique during a live roll.. This week I've been focusing every session trying to pull half guard and work from there.. I committing my entire game for the next two weeks just to half guard.. getting smashed but .. determined!
Lockdown and whip up rep rep rep.
Drill your techniques with an opp same size and weight. Slowly have them build up their resistance until they hit full resistance. Try to analyze the minute details that make the tech work, and start honing. Then start your live rolling to work on attaining said position. I know this sounds too easy, but it has worked for me. As everyone says rep rep and more rep ;) I just like to get the repping up to full resistance, so you know the tech under pressure. Then when your rolling live, your used to the pressure, and just going through the motions, not scrambling or chasing your tech while defending/attacking and just trying to make it work. Scrambles are going to happen, it's just the nature of the game. But you get to starting points ie; side control top, side control bottom, Half guard, etc...
The human brain has 3 hours to get info to sink in before you have to relearn the info. So Learn it and rep the shit out of it so it sinks in. Reps reps reps reps. Slowly or sometimes quickly things will start clicking.

I do the same thing, but for me it's learning to escape side control. I keep trying the the ghost escape, the jail break, shrimps.... It's hard for me... But I know I'll get it one day.
I totally agree, keep drilling your weak spots it totally pays off.
When I learned my half guard I repped for 7 months. Two weeks might not be enough
Against my instructor, I got to Jiu Claw after a triangle scramble. He rolled, I tried to control it best I could but I ended up in his guard. But it still felt good.
You should try Saulo's running escape. It only took me a few reps to start applying it in live rolling. It's great for replacing guard, pulling half guard, catching wild triangles, or the dumbo drop if you're rolling with a canned ham.Quote:
