Do you find it's best to freeze before you workout, after you workout, or on days you dont workout? Does it matter?

The closest I've come to doing any kind of cryotherapy is applying a basic ice pack on the occasional sprain/strain, and alternating between hot/cold in the shower the best I could tolerate it, following a hard workout or workouts. The concept is always the same, as far as I'm aware - You are using the cold to help reduce inflammation and speed recovery.
That said, if it were me, I'd save it for after training, or on a day off from working out, to help speed recovery time. I can't really envision any particular benefits to doing it before training.
