cool white belt lockdown story

Hey! I just recently joined a BJJ gym and I go during the day. There's usually only blue belts and up there so when I'm rolling at the end of class I just get my ass handed to me. On my back, usually in full mount very quick.

Generally I have been trying to get to Full Guard, but these guys are too quick and I can never get there so I'm getting tapped non stop.

I have been listening to JRE for years and always hear eddie talking about Lockdown / deep half so finally i said fk it and found some lockdown vids.

yesterday i rolled with the best blue belt i go against (hes 5'7" strong and fast) and was able to get to lockdown half guard (much easier than full guard) then I just imagine i'm holding onto a log and rolling. I swept him for the first time and was able to get much further into what it feels like in better positions instead of just trying to figure out how to not be choked or have my arm tied up.

Really fun, and I have a simple strategy now, knowing I'm going to get put on my back.

- get half guard first
- try to sweep / get back
- try to go for on of the arms with lockdown in
