Mac or PC
I know this is a Jiu Jitsu forum but many of you may also possess more computer knowledge than I. Getting a new computer in the near future and am basically asking one simple question. Mac or Pc? My main requirements are typing papers and video editing, was thinking a MacBook pro. Those with experience, please share. P.s lifelong Pc user.

Never had a Mac, but the pro's I've heard about them seem to be in line with your requirements (great for video editing and things of that nature). I know I'm not much help, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

dude i got a mac book pro the start of the year and havent looked back hey honestly converted me i look at windows now with a bad taste in my mouth like a ex mrs who got fat and had a pile of kids to different daddys

I work for apple, and have windows at home. for what you described, id take a mac anyday, if you can afford it. iMovie comes bundled on mac, and you can pick up Final Cut if you're serious about video editing.

A computer is a computer, and for the most part, Windows costs less money for the same specs. So, clearly Windows is the better choice. If all you are going to do is edit videos, type papers, and brows the internet, why would you pay much, much more money for a computer that is going to run the same software as another? (If you're buying it for the software it comes with and think torrenting is a big no-no, then I guess I could understand getting a Mac). Even my friend who is a die-hard apple supporter has Windows XP on his Mac. I will say this; Mac is a lot more user friendly for the most part. If you don't know how to take care of your computer, a Mac is probably the way to go, as it requires less upkeep on your part.
At the end of the day though, for what you want, a Windows computer would do it, and for a cheaper price.

Windows would do what you want but a Mac does it better whilst looking better too ;)
The same specs are irrelevant as the hardware in Macs on average are faster, the Macbook's screen for one is a lot better. Plus, the programs that run on OS X are much more efficient and improve your workflow a tonne. Macs don't get as many viruses and don't need you to install loads of anti-virus programs that do more harm than good.
For video editing, I'd go with the 15" MacBook Pro and try and get the i7 processor for the best performance :)
You've got to realise that with the OS, Windows XP is 10 years old. Mac OS X is bringing out better and better and each time it only costs $35, as opposed to $100 everytime Windows bring out a crappier version of XP. Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.5 is a 64 Bit Processor and gets updates all the time :)
Also, if you really want to run Windows XP, you can get a program called Parallels and run any Windows program through your Mac. You can't do it the other way around.
