Man that's some bullshit, no one aspect of mma is more important then another. If chael sonnen was better at passing guard he could of finished silva and in that same fight silva saved his arse with bjj. People who say stuff like that confuse me every aspect of mma is important.
the thing about what happened with anderson and chael is on point. what the hell is he talking about? that's interesting that was his last tweet. did he not see what mark bocek did to hazelett recently or that badass kneebar that jim miller did to olveira? maybe he's been watching strikeforce with all those KOs that recently happened when henderson fought babalu...or the last WEC when pettis did that superman-cage type kick. those were all spectacular standup fights but doesn't mean shit especially with a bold statement saying bjj now the LEAST effective in the sport. wonder why he feels that way and that's true wasn't he training 10th planet? anyone know his rank if he has one?
I think what it comes down to is that bjj isnt used as much these days not because its not effective but because it has a bit of a stigma. I have seen plenty of matches where the crowd starts to boo when the fight stays on the ground to long and nothing interesting happens. Its not really bjj its more wrestling thats makes the ground game boring to some (i love a fight no matter where it goes personally). Its a lot differents from the days when Royce Gracie wiped the floor with everyone, now most people use bjj for a defense and not a main offense. This won't always be the case trends come in go in mma and right now we are seeing lots of wrestling and lots of standup im willing to bet there will be a time when bjj is all of a sudden dangerous again when a frest fighter comes around and rapes everyone with it
^excuse the spelling errors im a bit tired
What we see today in MMA is that people are better at defending against submissions then back in the day when Royce wrecked shop. Now, everybody trains jiu jitsu and defending against submissions, sweeps etc... is still part of jiu jitsu.
^ maybe so but who knows. whatever the case may be its safe to say bjj isnt going anywhere people just have to learn how to use it in an mma context. Its strange but alot of the really awesome bjj guys out there arent competing in mma what gives?
All things aside, Jiu Jitsu has still proven to be more MMA effective than Judo and many other "aspects of the sport", imho.
10th planet jj isn't dead, because it is still new and the defense is still in the works.
