They are kinda a yin yang thing. One begets the other.
The low pass is useful in certain scenarios, i.e. breaking the lockdown, if someone over extends their legs in butterfly guard. There's more, i wish we were on the mats so i didnt have to try explaining in words.
Anyway, I don't think it's about easy or hard, or preference for that matter. It's just what pass will work in what particular scenario.
Keep working on ur low pass, it'll be harder for ur opponent to be offensive with his guard if ur constantly pushing him with different passes.
thanks guys, we were going over a low pass yesterday and i was just horrible at it, i think its just the amount of pressure im giving or maybe not being tight enough
I personally like to stand up when i pass full guard and stay low when passing butterfly or half. The key to passing low for me has always been to kill the hips (ala buttocks compressor or hugging the lower legs when passing butterfly.). In full guard i find it difficult to kill the hips plus your opponent has many attacks when you are on your knees. I personally always like to be on the attack so standing up kills the majority of his options (outside of leg locks) and helps set up my own leg locks or at the very least opens his guard so i can step out. I dont like wasting 3 minutes of a match fending off triangles, armbars, kimoras and guillotoines, rubber guard while trying to pass guard...its just easier to stand up and work my own attacks or passes.
Hope that helps
