NEWS: If Machida defeats Couture will he become a legend?

Machida-Couture clash is the co-main event of UFC 129, that takes place in Toronto, Canadá, on Apr 30th, the same card that will be headlined by Georges Saint Pierre versus Jake Shields, valid for the welterweight belt.

No, I think "not losing" is ideal if you want to be a legend.

Cotoure is a rare bread. A pioneer in the sport. He's not a legend for his record, he's a legend because of how he fights.

Machida is already a legend

I really dont think beating a legend makes you a legend..what you do in the cage makes you a legend..beating guys youre not suppose to beat makes you a legend..years down the road when youve long since retired and people still hear your name and know what a great fighter you were show that youre a legend..I dont think by beating Couture Machida will become a legend but i do believe Machida will be a legend one day

+1...needs more fights and wins against the top guys to be considered a legend.

I don't think beating a legend makes you a legend. Simply because Hughes beat Royce that match didn't make him a legend, he lost to Lesnar, does that make Lesnar a legend also? You have to beat the best to be the best, that's what we should be talking about. Machida needs to beat the best like Silva has. Legendary status can come with his resume in a few years.

I used to think that Randy's skills are what made him a legend. When I finally got to train with him and spend some one on one time talking about life the universe and everything I discovered that Randy's "skills" were more of a biproduct of who he was as a person. If Randy had never fought he still would have been one of the coolest people there is we just wouldn't have known about it. Time and pressure will reveal who you are as a person. The ink is still wet on Randy's story but a lot of Machida's has not been writen yet. The outcome won't nessisarily elevate one or diminish the other.
