How can you call out someone that sandbagging if you dont have proof they are sandbaggin? Unless you personally know that they have been training 7 years, or they are a brown belt and competing at beginner/white then you dont know if they are sandbagging or BJ Penn-talented. (I wonder if the blue belt divisions he blew through thought he was sandbagging) Different people have different physical gifts and different schools have different grading criteria. Genuine sandbaggers are only hurting themselves by not continuing their challenge againts tougher opposition. Drysdale's resume wouldnt look so impressive if it was 50 victories at white belt...
BTW Every tournament I have ever been in I loose to "sandbaggers" ;-)
I was at GQ in coral springs this month. joined the novice no gi division. I havent been training very long so I didnt go out there expecting to destroy my opponent, I really just wanted to experience what it would be like. I lost my match and afterwards my opponents father comes up to me and shakes my hand while saying and I qoute " Dont feel to bad he's been doing this for years" criteria for GQ novice is 9months or less training.... I was pissed at first but then I thought eventually I'll come back and destroy every single person I face. great motivator lol
Sanbagging seems rampant in no gi grappling, but is concentrated in the novice and beginner divisions. Alot of times folks just dont realize.....IF YOU WRESTLED IN COLLEGE...you are not a beginner, and certainly not a novice. Dont see many baggers in intermediate, folks seem to be honest at that point. Hell I watched a guy win the beginner division at one comp who I know has been training for over 3 years. Pointless to say anything though, then the story about "it wasnt consistent", or "all of it wasnt in a gym" etc. Folks who do this are as said, hurting themselves and sort of completely missing the point of grappling comp (to make your game better) for the lesser issue (winning some trinket).
yeah...I know a lot of grappling tournaments are trying to weed that out. You know...guys who have done judo for 10 years but are BJJ white belts and what not. It sucks. It is more rampant with the guys whove been wrestling for years who join grappling tournaments as beginners and wreck the beginner guys. I know naga events will say no wrestlers and what not. The behavior really sucks.
If you want one of those naga belts are plaques...go to a memorabilia store or website and have one made for you
ignore it before it turns into an obsession to find all the sandbaggers in every tournament
.....you should look for the double baggers at the tournaments AYE OHHHHHHHHHHHH!
:-D
lol even tho its a joke cookie makes a good point. I waited 4 hours for my match to start. In that time I watched alot of matches go down from all different types of ranks and weight classes, I didnt see one 10th planet guy/girl there. when I told that to my training partners they all got excited. big moral boost to know your the only 10pjj player at a comp. even tho I lost I cramped the sandbaggers leg in my lockdown :D I could tell cause before his next match he kept massaging the leg i locked down. made my day.
They do that cause they know they would get beat by better guys. I love catchin a sandbagger in my division, but its true not many from intermediate up. Won some and lost some but it always tough matches.
I've seen more of a problem with not makin their boys weigh in. I mean a 15 lb advantage, dirty. But fuck it go get em.
i say bring em' on , try to your best whoever you are against in a tournament
