Wow that's a pretty good view
(guess the forum doesnt want to embed that video)
Meh, it looked more like he was trying to set up a right hand. I used do this a lot when sparring myself, though I have never injured anyone's eye. Accidents happen.
Yeah I'm def not saying it really was intentional but that's a shitty way to throw a job. Very well could have changed the pace of the fight by taking away one of gsp's eyes. Shields doesn't seem like that kind of fighter though
I blame George for being a fucking pussy.
I blame Greg Jackson and Firas Zahabi... Steven Seagal would have told GSP to strengthen his eye muscles using an ancient technique that he actually invented.
Looks intentional to me. That doesn't looks like a set up. It looks like a slap. Shields is an MMA fighter. He's not stupid. He knows that fingers can poke eyes and seem incidental. He knows that he should be mindful of fingers. And from what I know, if people wanna say it was his muay thai training, a set up is done with the palm facing forward with a straight arm, not a slapping motion.
That's just an opinion. I can't read Shields mind. But using common sense, it looks intentional and it def wasn't a jab.
Haha exactly or maybe gsp wud have won with a front kick
GSP would've still won by decision. He knocked dude down with a head kick and did nothing with it. Last time he knocked someone down with a headkick he finished with a barrage of punches and elbows (GSP/Hughes 2). George Safe Pierre doesn't finish anymore. Eyepokes aside, it would've still been the same fight.
I am also not saying it was intentional since I can't even load that video for some reason, however when I was watching the fight, it looked like Shileds never really made a fist with his hands, and his fingers were always pointing forward. Now I know that an open palm is a way to parry an incoming jab that GSP is known for in these days, however even before the poke, I thought to my self " man this guy is gonna poke him in the eye eventally while throwing his fully extended fingers to GSP's face"
