Groin injury
So, I was running a few weeks ago, and somehow hurt my groin. It was very tender, didn't hear or feel anything pop. Today, in jiujitsu class, when my teammate pushed my knee down to pass my guard, I felt 3 pops. It started to burn for a second, and then it kind of went a little numb until I started to move. Does it sound like I pulled it or torn it, and anything I can do at home to help heal it? Thanks, guys.

I dont know what it is. Been talking about getting insurance again, but haven't done it yet. Not only does it hurt in the groin region, but also a little in the waistline area of the right side. I've never had a hernia, and wouldnt even know what that feels like. lol. I sneezed earlier and it hurt so fucking bad. Instead of God Bless you, it was GODDAMN THAT HURT! lol

sounds like a hernia though I have never had one. Look up some info about them and see if it matches with what your going through. Could just be a severely pulled muscle though again, I am no doctor

I'm no Dr. either bro, but I did go to combat medic school lol. Seriously though, that sounds exactly like what happened to me abput 5 years ago. Npw I have a massive inguinal or "sliding" hernia. I hope thos isn't your case but watch for any protrusions of the bowel in your lower waist line.

I'm gonna go to the doctor in a little bit. I'm just so down right now, because this past year has been so bad for me, injury wise. Everything I turn around, I'm injured. My girlfriend told me last night that maybe it was time to hang it up, but I told her that will never happen.

Men are very susceptible to hernias. Tony's spot on. A hernia is a loop of bowel that slips through the abdominal wall between the muscles. Men usually get one of two types. #1 looks like a tumor at the waistline if it goes untreated #2 feels like your scrotum is full of rice. Neither should go untreated because blood can be prevented from supplying that trapped loop of bowel. That tissue can die and become a massive infection.
#1. Epigastric hernia: Occurring between the navel and the lower part of the rib cage in the midline of the abdomen, epigastric hernias are composed usually of fatty tissue and rarely contain intestine. Formed in an area of relative weakness of the abdominal wall, these hernias are often painless and unable to be pushed back into the abdomen when first discovered.
#2. Inguinal (groin) hernia: Making up 75% of all abdominal-wall hernias and occurring up to 25 times more often in men than women, these hernias are divided into two different types, direct and indirect. Both occur in the groin area where the skin of the thigh joins the torso (the inguinal crease), but they have slightly different origins. Both of these types of hernias can similarly appear as a bulge in the inguinal area. Distinguishing between the direct and indirect hernia, however, is important as a clinical diagnosis

Hopefully it's just a groin pull. Good luck.

Does having a stronger core in any way help prevent these type of hernias? Or are we just rolling the dice every time we do our respective sports?

Stretching often and having a strong core does reduce your chances. However if you already have hernias stretching could make it worse. Nothing can guarantee that you won't get one though. A good way to avoid one in bjj to not roll with people bigger than you too much as keeping a large person in full guard can tear the wall.
