This is why I only grow / catch my own food or eat organic and naturally grazed food from local farms. I grow our own organic vegetables and I catch my own fish. I make sure my meats have no added hormones and are grazed feed. Once I have my own piece of land I'll be raising my own chickens for eggs and bees for honey and pollinating my vegetables.
Get the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartbolomew. Anyone can grow their own organic vegetables in only 4'x4' piece of land. Its ridiculously simple and it works.
If you live by the ocean, buy a fishing rod and learn what fish run at what time of the year. I can catch buckets full of mackerel every day they're running. Clean and freeze them for FREE fish year round.
Crazy man but thanks for posting. I'm so glad I became a vegetarian this year.
Shawn thanks for the book recommendation. I've added that to wish list for when I move to somewhere that has a graden!
Yeah, iam in a culinary/catering class. for the next 2years of high school, and we had a huge unit on this..we had to watch factory farm videos..and the videos from PETA it was all sad..i tried being vegetarian..but i need the protein..but we get our meat from a butcher, at a local grocery store..so im not to worried!
Not saying you and should and if you are happy then carry on doing what you're doing but know that protein dosen't just come from meat. There are many plant based protein rich foods you can have instead. Some even have more protein then meat!
There's also insects! They are pound for pound the highest protein and least impacting on the environment :)
