Court McGee Has Been Living by Murphy’s Law, but He’s Almost Ready to Return to Actio

“Ultimate Fighter” season 11 winner Court McGee has been living Murphy’s Law for the last several months.

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

The Utah based fighter was successful in his first fight after winning the reality show competition as he finished off Ryan Jensen by arm triangle last October. But during the fight, McGee suffered a broken hand that put him out of action while the injury healed.

Still desiring to compete and train, McGee opted to push back into his workouts doing everything he possibly could without actually using his right hand, which suffered the injury.

McGee headed to California to help Jake Shields get ready for his UFC 129 title shot against Georges St-Pierre, and his hand was just days away from being cleared to resume full sparring and training. That’s when Murphy’s Law struck.

“Court’s one of those guys that never really stops. He broke his hand in the Ryan Jensen fight so his training consisted of everything except hitting with his right hand. As that healed, almost exactly when he was able to start training again he blew out his knee training with Jake (Shields),” McGee’s manager Gary Ibarra told MMAWeekly Radio.

The knee injury forced McGee out of his scheduled fight against Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131 in June, and required him to go in for surgery. There McGee did receive some positive news because his doctors were amazed that the knee held up as long as it did.

“When he had his surgery the doctor had mentioned there was a lot of damage that was in there, he really had no idea how Court had been competing for so long without having it fixed,” Ibarra commented.

Just days after his surgery was completed and long before McGee could resume his training, he already felt much better and the difference in his knee was like night and day.

“I think it was about a week after Court’s surgery and it was a direct quote, he felt better than he had before he had even gotten injured,” said Ibarra. “I think we’re going to see Court fairly soon, and I think we’re going to see a physically upgraded Court McGee.”

The new and improved Court McGee is excited to get back into competition and face a new challenge in the middleweight division.

While UFC cards are filling up faster and faster these days, McGee will be ready to return to action in mid-summer and he’s just waiting on a call from matchmaker Joe Silva to find him a fight.

“We’re looking at the end of July maybe early August,” Ibarra stated regarding McGee’s timeline for return.

The August cards for Philadelphia, Brazil and the UFC on Versus 5 show in Milwaukee all potentially have room for McGee to get slotted in for a fight.
