Advice on how to approach this

Here is the situation. Opponent sits on the floor, you are standing and looking to pass his guard step by step instead of a jumping explosion style move. You try to approach the guy but he keeps on placing his feet on your knees and hips keeping you at distance.
Basically most of the people that I roll with are much better in playing open guard than me passing open guard. So I am looking here to see if you guys have some tricks up your sleeves, when your opponent is good at keeping his distance.

Face Stomp!

Torreando Pass, standing cross pass, leg lock, and if they're really lazy you can pin their foot to the mat like a low single leg, driving your shoulder into their shin and climbing up their leg to side mount.

as long as you can get a KNEE on the inside of his guard your pretty much set to start your basic moves, getting a knee on his inside guard is KEY, shuts alot of his game down

Don't let him dictate the distance. Grab the ankles flip em up and jam in on that space

I do pull ankles of my limbs but I guess I do not capitalize on the space that I just created so he puts them right back on.
