Weight Class Advantages

Hey Nibiru forum, I'm new here. My name is Stephen.

I'm new to the whole scene as far as competitive experience.

As I start to train and think about competition, I need some guidance
on the nogi weight system.

Are the weight classes generally the same in both types competition?

I am 6'0" tall and can fluctuate my weight from about 135min-155max. (lbs)
My best strength to weight ratio comes at about 140-145.

With my height I feel like I have a great advantage when I roll with folks
at the 135 weight, and can sprawl and control most people I have rolled
with at the 145 range.

155 is my top weight gain, and those guys are generally bigger and taller than I am.

I am looking for some guidance as to my best option, or even some personal
experiences about changing weight classes.

Also, what is the average height of the competitors in the different weight classes?

How the hell can you be 6'0 and 140lbs!!! I Would freak to see you in comp, I'm 5'6 at the same weight... and i'm not really bulky.

I would HARDLY say most people at 140-155 are over 6 feet tall. Dont be silly.

As for recommendation, I myself max out these days at 140 and am 5'10. The only time I worry about it is NAGA seasons and judo competitions. At our lower weights, very few people cut to get into the classes so its basically not a problem.

I was overwhelmed though my first NAGA awhile back because I didnt even think about my weight. I weighed in at 130.5 pounds in a 130-140 division....which was a huge mistake. At the time, everyone in my division seemed like monsters haha

Seriously, avg height for a 155er is probably 5'7-5'8, I'm 5'11 and walk around 225, (185 or 205 comp) most people I roll with my weight are a good 4 inches taller. Height can be an advantage, if you know how to use your leverage, if not, you can find yourself stuck under a compact monster with great base.

im 6'1" 155lbs and 99% of the time Im the tallest guy in my division. Stay as light as you can without compromising strength or cardio to much... Being taller has alot of advantages that you can exploit

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I guess the guys I hang with
are usually bigger than I am, and larger than average. So 6'0" - 140lbs would
provide an above average height advantage.

Haha, Sam, that's the response I was hoping for. I walk around at 6'0" -140lbs
right now. Make no mistake, that IS skinny, but I can sprawl and wrestle with intent
and quickness.

Mike - I wouldn't think most folks at 140 would be taller than I am, but at 155 it doesn't
seem so uncommon. So 140 is your max weight? It's about my average, but I feel like
it's about my best configuration as far as strength and conditioning.
I think at this point I can gain muscle and maintain 140lbs.

Do yall find that you usually have an advantage being taller? (say...4 inches or more)?
Disadvantage? or No advantage either way?

Just really trying to narrow down my intentions and work toward a specific goal.

Being tall is usually an advantage on the size department, however anything that is out of proportion will come and bite you in the ass. See foot note Kendall Grove. If you are really tall for your weight class, that means you are not packing as much muscle as other people in your weight class. They will be stronger than you are. In higher lvl competition you will get manhandled by these guys. If you are 6.0 tall, I would say that you should not be less than 155 pounds since anything lower than that you are going there with bones and skin for ammunition.
If you want to know what I mean, watch mark munoz easily out wrestle and dominate and technically more proficient and better striker Kendall Grove where Kendall also had a humongous height and reach advantage. Too much of anything is bad.
