I don't know dude, single sleeve omoplatas don't really translate well to no gi. Nino is rad as hell, but I have little hands and the grip power of a 5 year old. I'll stick with my overhooks.
This man did invent the "Rubber Guard" back when Edgar Cano was still a blue belt.
Again, I love Schembri's game but how are there similarities between a sleeve control omoplata setup and rubber guard? Yes, the gross mechanics are the same and the principles of posture control, optimum hip angle, and clearing the head are all present but stylistically they play a different game.
In the video you posted, not once did Nino ever employ an over hook. To retain control of the omoplata Nino grabs the shoulder of his opponent's gi in order to trap their arm... you can't even do that without the gi. You can't even do spider guard omoplata setups in no gi. It's so drastically different I don't even understand the comparison.
I've done some training and rolling with Nino...his movement and body control is unreal
Everything was already invented with Gi. Then it took some people to look at it & figure out a way to incorporate it into a No-Gi game. Plain & Simple. Edgar was Black Belt in "Gi" before Twister or Rubber Guard ever came out.
I thought your point was that Nino invented the rubber guard?
whoever has worked a high guard in the past is one thing but training under eddie i can tell you that no one has created the complex rubber guard game he has. Most people don't see just how in depth it actually is. there are still a huge number of people that think mission control is what rubber guard is..and that's it. To be honest for me to pull off solid submission from RG it took me about a year of trial and error, over and over again. But the time is worth it when you pulling things others have no idea what your doing.
honestly, i think he's just trolling for fun. its seemed like that for a while
schembri couldnt have invented the rubber guard. when he was doing his thing, noone ever called it rubber guard.
so, eddie developed a guard system which he himself named the rubber guard, not anyone else.... and schembri had utilized a bunch of other set-ups before him, that don't resemble the rubber guard system that eddie developed.
my question is... how the heck do people still manage to make this mistake, that schembri invented the rubber guard? because he uses the gogoplata? gogoplata=/rubber guard
