I've torn most all the ligaments in a finger. It took quite a while
to feel normal again, and it still contains a lump next to knuckles
where they got bunched up after being ripped up. The hardest
part for me was to remember to not slam my other hand into that
knuckle trying to pop my fingers, but it was the middle joint of the
finger. It was a few months of pretty harsh pain, but eventually
it went back to full flexibility and functionality.
ive got to wear a splint for like six weeks, which mean no training till i can take it off, don't know how im going to cope!
I had it on my pinkie. Couldn't roll for about 2 months. Kept it straight for the whole time. It's pretty straight now. But I am no longer able to completely curl the finger all the way.
Did this happen in the gi while gripping?
Got it a few years back in a no gi roll. Cost me agood 2 months rolling too. They gave me a shitty splint at first but i found a "stack splint" at an old school pharmacy that was designed specifically for mallet finger. If you dont have one yet you can find online for like $5. Had to wear it for 6 weeks and it completely healed with no issues. The splint holds it straight so the ligament that extends the finger can re-attach with scar tissue. If you allow the finger to bend during the healing period you could be back to square one...or worse...so dont let that happen. Good luck.
