A question for Eddie... or anyone else that could answer...

Has you or anyone you have taught put the lockdown on.. backwards per say, like putting the inside leg over the top of the leg and then under your knee and looping the outside leg under the ankle? I noticed when doing this either by messing up in my head where my legs are or purposefully putting them there that i can whip up and as i clear under the arm i can hit a calf crush... I cannot remember if i was ever taught this or if i just accidently hit it one day... if there is some confusion I can record it and show you what I mean

I'm not Eddie status, but I'll give your question a crack:
There's nothing that says you can't not make up your own techniques. The good thing is you're trying and exploring and coming up with stuff that you can repeat- so what once came by accident can be added to your repertoire.

Here's the only gotcha with your technique... The way your legs are grape-vined is not conducive for the whip up then dog, fight because
(whip up
->curl his foot back with your outside heel
->"U"-ing the inside knee to dog fight position).

You wouldn't be able to do this with the set up you explain...

But, here's a valid scenario: you are in a match and are about to lose if you don't get a sub fast..
You can A) whip up the regular way and try to score points but it may not be enough,
or
B) whip up your way and go for broke and secure that calve crush, all the while your opponent thinks he'll just have to block the actions after the regular whip up to win... Hahaha, he just got tricked by your backward lockdown to calve crush.

thanks for the post rick... yes i totally get that the dog fight cant be accessed from here, im not sure there is really anything to go from after that calf crush, im just wondering if anyone has ever accidently fell into learing this technique, my back up to this is my whip doesnt work to try and quickly change into the correct lockdown and work from there, i just noticed that if by chance a new student, and obviously im still new to this, whips up with the wrong grapevine in that at least if they clear under the arm they have something they can hit... maybe its best if i just post a video im just wondering if anyone else has stumbled onto this, again thank u for the input!

You could calf crush from the regular lock down. All you do is unhook your inside leg and put it over their ankle instead of under it but hook it under your knee rather than your heel. Then put the foot of your inside leg under the foot of your outside leg and use that leverage to push your inside leg down and the outside leg up. It's a nasty calf crush.

It's pretty much a version of the one you explained but Anderson teaches this one and I know the Penns go for it all the time. I've tried your version before and it hurts and it sucks to have it put on you but try it the way I explained. It's so painful with so little effort.
