I should stress it is my first competition, and I've never had to cut weight before!
water, water, water. Week of the weigh ins increase water intake to 2 gal a day for mon/tues, cut down to one gal wed, half of it thurs, very little if any after that (assuming weigh ins are sat and same day). If weigh ins are day before you could do other things, but 5-10 lbs isn't really that much
if you are 5-10 out now, just make your food portions smaller and eat 5-6 x a day and I think the weight will come off prior to the last week. Of course I don't know how active you are of how much cardio you are doing, that will have a lot a influence.
Rolling hard 2-3 times a week. Probably gonna run on my off days. I'm 5'9 181lbs was gonna try to drop 15 to jump down a weight class, But feel like that might be a stretch.
nah....you'll be fine. Cut the food portions down, increase the frequency of the smaller portions, clean up the diet as needed and drink the water.
the running will help a ton
Three weeks is plenty of time if you're just cutting 10% of your bodyweight and are 170lbs or less. I'd start Eat 6-8 small, lean protein, quality carb, meals per day. Make sure your daily calorie intake is a little less than your daily calorie expenditure *this is key.* Also lots of rolling and/or a disease free sexathon 3-4 times a week will yield you good-great results. Let us know what your progress is like buddy.
wrestler here, lost 10 pounds in two weeks with diet and working out
eat 6 times a day. Only protein and good carbs(veggies)
nothing else, alternate what you eat
so protein, carb, protein, carb,
eat a piece of grilled chicken, egg whites, or fish, maybe london broil.
any veggie is good for the carbs, do not eat any type of bread, or pasta, just stick to veggies.
look up tabata training, it is the best interval training, and lasts only 8 minutes
roll everyday, don't stop till you puke, keep rolling till you puke again, wipe your face,
rinse, wash, repeat.
Here's a great article on it. I used it for my second MMA fight, and although the weigh ins were 5 hours before my fight, I was able to cut 10 lbs easily, and felt great when I stepped into the cage. http://www.grapplearts.com/How-to-Cut-Weight.html
