Rubber Guard in UFC Undisputed 3

Okay, I've played the other two games and they both have poor Rubber Guard technique; the player always grabs the bottom of the foot and not using the wrist above the ankle. I just watched some gameplay for the new game and they STILL aren't doing it right.
Am I missing something? Am I such 10PJJ noob that I don't even realize it is acceptable to grab the foot?

At like 5:45 or so he does that fail ass rubber guard, then zombies the arm, clears the neck and works the gogo.
I don't know whether they know what they're doing or not.

It might be a graphics issue where they can't quite get the grip to look smooth so they opt for another way to present it. Or maybe they already have the coding for the way they've always had it and got lazy and chose to not update it. Or maybe they just don't know any better. But that's definitely not the right way to do it.

Why does the submission meter look like it's taken from a NES videogame? They should fire whoever designs their HUD elements.

At least it's better than just spinning the stick. But EA MMA had a better submission meter. I love how you could see the bone fill up, or if it was a choke the screen would slowly get darker around the edges. Genius. Too bad the UFC game didnt' try something along those lines.
