10th planetjj for mma vs 10th planetjj for jj

For the more experienced jj practitioners than myself. Because Eddie created the system to be used in mma and make a fighters jj level feared does the tenth planet system in jj tournaments hinder your performance against a bjj jj system or Improve it? I've had mixed results in rolling, but that's blamed on my lack of opportunity of drilling time and my constant study of 10th planet material but lack of study of bjj basics. Which after my first few times of rolling I'm glad I've realized I have to learn just as importantly as the 10th planet stuff. (mount and guard escapes etc)

Just this Passed weekend at Master Eddies Seminar in rochester he spoke about the importance of knowing all the RG twister half guard etc in the system and he stressed still having to know everything else in bjj as well that what makes this system so much harder to master and so much more diverse we have to learn all the basics and all the bjj knowledge as well as all the 10th planet jj knowledge. So just remember knowing it all is the key, keep learning and continue to grow...

i think you got to know everything it all helps like twister side control i look at as another version of side control (side control Judo side control Twister side control ) most people only know 2 where i know 3 so in theory i have 50 percent more options from "side control " as a whole then the average joe and buy the way get back to perth and come for a roll round mine god dam it

And Eddie is spot on, you gotta know JIU JITSU, not just the 10th Planet techniques. Unfortunately, a lot of people presume that the 10th Planet gym only trains 10th Planet techniques. It couldn't be further from the truth. 10th Planet is one of the most open minded Jiu Jitsu gyms there is, and the best things I got from training there were stuff like my Guillotines improving moreso than my Rubber Guard

It seems a major misconception is that 10th planet JJ is the stuff Eddie invented or stresses using: Rubber Guard series, Lock-down series, and twister side and all its various routes. That is NOT true, however. If you listen to the man, you know that 10th Planet JJ is ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that works no-gi. "We're taking everyone's shit, and giving credit" A paraphrase of something Eddie said in an interview once. It isn't just all the crazy shit Eddie came up with, it's everything that can work in no-gi JJ or MMA. That includes, of course, rubber guard, the lock down, and twister side, but it also means Deep-half, arm locks and choke set-ups not requiring the gi sleeves and collars, and ect. So of course, the basics of JJ are still very much needed. You have to spend all the time mastering that. The idea behind 10th planet is simply that you don't need to spend time mastering those basics while wearing a gi. (Call me on bull shit if anything I said was wrong, please.)

I'm happy to see this thread, I've considered starting it myself. I never do because I have little to contribute, I just want to listen.

What I do know is that "everything that works no-gi" might be a bigger universe than "everything that works in MMA" since no-gi jiu jitsu is making more assumptions. What % of the system does George Sotiropoulos or Dan Hardy know?
