Cracked Ribs?
I think I busted a rib last week. Anybody ever done this? It's killing me. Can't roll or even drill.
How long does it take to heal up from something like this? I was supposed to do NAGA this weekend in Atlanta, and I am headed to LA to train the week of October 18.

You are looking at being out for 4-6 weeks if you actually broke your ribs. The best way to relieve the pain is to wrap your toro with an ace wrap or something that can compress/splint them. To keep the swelling down take about 500mg of naproxen(aleve) a day. I wouldn't be rolling at all. If you did fracture the bone you run the chance of puncturing your plural space or your lung and getting a tension pneoumothorax. Then, you will be hating life big time.
I've had to treat battle field trauma of guys who busted some ribs. One guy was pretty bad and I ended up having to chest tube him. So, yeah....heal up first before you train.

Damn Brandon, thats a tough break. Prolly a bad choice of words.
I've never had a rib problem, but my left shoulder has been giving me all KINDS of shit lately.
Rub some dirt on it!

Yea, Ive been teaching for a month with bruised ribs after one of my newbies tried to show me how he could break my guard after two classes. Problem was, I was using him to show technique and wasn't ready for his blast of weight and strength when he decided to show me his skills, fucking newbies, what are you going to do with them.
As far as your problem goes, Clayton is dead on, except he forgot to mention that if you didn't break your ribs and did tear the cartilage between them, you could feel the pain to more than six months, ouch. Unfortunately, time is the only cure for rib injuries, so take it easy and there will be plenty of other matches that you can enter. No need to further risk injury and taking longer to heal
Good luck

LoL, busted ribs suck! I was just teaching a private with a student who weighs 230, and decided he needed to know how to properly distribute and use his weight. Lesson was a great success..... For him, brusied or cracked my sternum. That was 4 weeks ago and I am still hurting, I believe he now understands how to use his weight....
Clayton, are you a Combat Medic? HUA!!!

My father and I were throwing the football when I were younger and I threw a pass and he was running a route to catch and and ran right into the ladder hanging out of his truck. He cracked some ribs and couldn't work for over a month.

i dislocated my rib a LONG time ago, and it still gives me problems to this day.
if you are having a hard time taking a FULL breath, its time to take it easy.
mine feels like somebody is pushing a pool cue into my ribs when i take a full breath. not fun.
take time to heal. id roll, but not compete.
good luck bud

I still can't tolerate a "knee on belly" (knee on ribs) on my left side from a roll that took place over 2 years ago. I think its permanently damaged...

I did the same thing about 6 weeks ago .... elbow to floating rib. Sucks big time! couldn't sleep and nothing helped for the pain. just started rolling again this week. Only thing you can do is wait it out. good luck.

I've torn the cartilage in both of my floating ribs. I was out for 7 weeks on the first one and 6 weeks on the second one.
Take your time to heal. They re-injure so easily. I just tried to support the area that was painful whenever I had to cough, sneeze or laugh. Rib injuries are terrible.
