I agree as it works so well for me too. Im 41 and still improving with this method. Its modified but all in all, same thing. Circumstances may vary but the principles stay the same!
So, I assume you don't peel the ginger before you add it, right? More fiber that way?
I make kale shakes every day, especially in the morning -- and its a much different feeling of fuel -- if your eating a gluten heavy large breakfast you probably don't realize how bloated and immobile you feel compared to the power you feel from something like this. Not to mention the amount of nutrients.
I can't suggest the benefits of a real diet enough especially for all you guys looking to compete out there. You very very clearly feel boosted or dragged down by what your eating, and commonly don't notice it till you make a switch because your so used to the way you feel from your routine diet.
I always looked at celery and cucumber as filler greens: stuff you add to a salad to make it more appealing but not significantly more nutritious. Was I wrong?
i'd just like to say the Vitamix is bad ass, well worth the $400 you might pay for one. check their website for refurbs which still have the 12yr warranty.
They are more than not a filler, but what you can call a Nutritious filler, they hold alot of water and fill you, but they do have *some* good nutrition in the forms of small amounts of vitamins, fiber, a little sugar. They are both very low in kcal, so for people dieting can provide further low kcal carbohydrate sources.
I think the purpose of putting them in a smoothy like this, (in addition to the added taste and vitamins) is that kale is very thick when blended, and adding water saturated vegetables allows it to endup much more a drinkable smoothie rather than a slightly liquid paste.
I made one of these the other day, and I have to warn everyone: don't go overboard with the ginger. I put a bulb of it about the size of the one Rogan used in the video, and it was way too strong. Felt like I'd get an ulcer if I drank the whole thing so I stopped halfway.
