My Match from Naga this past February

Here's match from Naga at Intermediate featherweight. I got dominated but I learned about what I need to improve on. It was a slight condolence that my opponent would go onto to win the division but I felt uncomfortable a lot of the match. My technique was very sloppy and I made so many mistakes....but I did have the pleasure of meeting Brandon Mccaghren, Bobby Rivers and Scott Phillips who are all awesome guys.

I've been working on my mistakes and I'm going to compete again next month, hopefully with better results. :D If you guys have any advice or critiques on my match I'd love it.

Thanks for posting Griff! I hated that yalls division was upstairs. Man that dude was good and you were more than competetive. You probably already know where you need to tighten up, but thats what i see. Good timing and strategy just be tighter and solidify positions.

Leg curl the shit out of his face on that armbar. Dont cross your feet and squeeze independantly with both legs. I know you know:) See ya later man.

Thanks Bobby. :) Man my armbars from the guard are awful. I wouldn't have even attempted it except for the clock was running out and I didn't have anything to lose. I'm getting a little better at them but I know I'm still missing some important nuances.

First of all, I don't think you got dominated. You lost and learned some things, but I wouldn't call it domination.

A few observations from my perspective; take them with a grain of salt:

1. I think you are too content to roll to your back. You conceded the sweeps really easily. I don't know if it's a mindset issue or an issue with your base, but that's something I would focus on.

2. I think you were holding on to the guard for too long while it was being passed. At some point you have to admit, "OK, I'm getting my guard passed." Starting moving and escaping the next position (or replacing your guard) during the transition instead of allowing him to settle with you flat on your back.

Again, great job. Way to put yourself out there and learn. Glad to have you on board with the system :)

Thanks man! I was trying to stay on top lol. It's an issue with my base. Now you mention it, I'm realizing I hold onto the guard too long all the time. Awesome advice Brandon. I have so much to work on! :)

yeah man you didnt get dominated at all. you seem to like being in gaurd a lot so just put in lots of reps in practice on those arm bars. and i have found the true key to rubber gaurd is double bagging. over all you looked good man. (:

Thanks Nathan. My rubber guard needs a lot work but watching your competition matches has helped my game. You're a rubber guard assassin and that's what I want to be one day. Thanks for the inspiration man!

Thanks man. I put blue when I joined for some reason but no I'm definitely a white belt.
