You left 10p Matthias.
How do we help?
...
Why don't you go back for a while to take control of the business. Sounds like they need you Not to sound rude, but if you aren't willing to do what it takes to keep the business open, why should people donate.
Also. What reforms are in place that will make it so that this money isn't going down the drain. If its a cash flow issue it is different from poor management.
Good point, Brent. First of all, let me say that you all don't owe me anything, so please don't get offended, when I'm asking for help.
There are a some reasons why I am not flying back. Like my master said before "family comes first". I got married two months ago here in California and I'm trying to become stable here. And there is a simple reason why I am not sitting in the airplane at this moment. I just don't have the money for it. It's that bad!
I don't want to get into too many details, why the first six months of this month had been so bad for the business, but let's just say money went into very wrong places, instructors weren't paid and there was too little paid attention from the temporary CEO to our clients, which led to mistrust and criticism. On top of that mandatory gym equipment was gone when I finally took over a few days ago.
There are some personell changes and I work close together with my people in Hamburg. I talk to my staff every day, so I can make decisions and lead my people to make their own right choices, which will take us back to the top.
I hope that makes sense to you.
What really needs to happen, is someone steps in and takes over as manager. Someone able to build a decent rapport with clients old and new. But also someone that knows how to run a business. You need to be running step/zumba/yoga/dance classes in your facility when there are no martial arts classes taking place. That brings in good revenue. You can make good money selling water, protein shakes, merchandise etc etc too. Like Brent says, we don't want to be throwing money down the shitter. If there is a chance things could turn around though i am sure we could help in some way. Would be a crying shame for 10p Hamburg to close its doors.
Anything i can do to help just shout, advice etc. I used to run/own an mma gym (Sold my share in January though so i could train elswehere). So i know what works and what doesn't. :-)
Most important questions for me right now though is, how much do you need? And how long has the landlord given you to get it? If it is a big amount and you only have 2 days then it is pretty much a lost cause. Could be worth speaking to the landlord and trying to work out some kind of payment plan. In this economy anything is better than nothing. Probably wouldn't take that much to keep him off your back for a while. As long as you stay consistent. :-)

Sounds like you need to restructure. That may include downsizing and leaving the space you are in and reconfiguring layout for a more economical rent payment to keep the gym alive. Good luck with everything.
Matthias,
You left 10p Hamburg to teach Jiu Jitsu 1 mile away from 10p Burbank after I told you that it was not only against 10p policy but it is also a stab in the back to the people at 10p Burbank. You did it anyways and now you assume im just gonna let you back in because things didn't work out at the gym you defected to?
Cmon Mattias. Now ur asking for us to send you money to save the gym you walked away from?
How is this not crazy to you?
I expect this thread to explode in the next few days.
I was thinking the same thing. With this public now lets see the response cause it sounds like someone got in over their head & now that its falling apart they are running back to the last place they had real support. but its mighty hard to cross a bridge that sounds like it not only burnt but exploded.
Besides my mother taught me better than to just go handing out money on the Internet to strangers. Most of us are grown ass men that are a lot smarter than that. Your gym isn't even under current locations of 10th Planet affiliates, which lead me to believe you were lying. You weren't even honest about your approach to needing help. You were just gonna take advantage of us an Eddies's site to try to pull your dying business out of the shits. Eddie is a lot nicer about this than a lot of the others are going be, but you sir, are an asshole.

Ja, was ist Deutchland?

I wonder where the support was all those years. ;)
I had support from a few friends. But did you ever hear about 10th Planet Hamburg other than from myself?
We were the driving force in Germany. Not only for 10th Planet, but in Jiu Jitsu in general.
You are wrong. That's all I can say about it.
You are not too far away. Would you mind coming over and say that to my face?
I didn't say fuck you to our Master. I explained why I was about to do, what I did. I noticed that I was wrong, apologized and now found out that he doesn't pay too much attention to what I write him in private.
So let's all move on, I won't try to bug you anymore with anything.
You only get one chance when it comes to doing something like teaching a mile from a gym that let you train there. I remember pics of you with Kim Karen Erwan all over your page. Then you did that
I am totally shocked. Matthias you did all you can to discourage the people and bring the school into a bad light. And all you can do is asking people to give you money. Man I am pissed.
How could you even tell the Grappling unit are 10th Planet. There is no 10th Planet teacher in this school anymore (remember you donīt want us to teach anymore or you donīt wanna pay). You ruine the school because you said you donīt get the money you deserved from it. For what? Get money for doing what? You were getting more money than all of our teachers together for just be.
I really let you do your thing and the whole time you say false and bad things about me and others in public. But now I am pissed. And the students are pissed. Stop telling everyone that you are the victim and in trouble because of bad circumstances. You did it all alone.
I'm in no position to come up with any sensible arguments here, I don't know what's going on really.. And I try not to judge people without having experienced the situation in question, so I'm not gonna get involved in the family quarrel, lol! But whatever the case may be, I hope the school will be alright! You are a cool gang! :) Maybe try to find cheaper accommodations, hang up more posters or something?
My old gym bit the dust, and it sucked. In fact, I became fat. :(
Wasn't Ralf talking about moving back to Germany to open a moon? Sounds like a venue just opened up. Ralf W is pretty bad ass as competitors go. Brown belt took 1st in worlds last year.
if you started the 10 th planet school and you wanna ditch out is that because your married and trying to live a life in usa or is canīt you handle the presure. rules are rules man . you could have call mr bravo or talk to him face to face . if your school is in deep shit , try to search for sponsers itīs a big city , go to the local news paper and put on a shout out 10th planet sign . make fliyers put them up in storeīs in the centre . you have to do something and walk away is the lowest thing to do .So get youīre act together and put on some work !!!!
iīm trying to fight my fucking cancer , iīm gonna fucking win this battle giving up thatīs the last thing you do in any situation !
i would kill for a 10 th planet in holland
I Havnt met Matthias and frankly dont want to. Verena and everyone else that ive met at 10th planet hamburg are the best craziet and friendliest people ive ever met. (not to mention having some sick jiu jitsu). While i dont know all the financial details i can tell you that everything seemed to working well and always improving while verena was here and now that matthias is meddling lots of people have left the gym and there are way fewer classes which makes me wonder how its going to help the gym.
to jolanda best of luck, and then some more, and id be keen for a holland trip :D
Does this mean i have to delete Matthias from my Facebook friends now?
Sweet, just wait 8 more years so i can become a blackbelt and open a school in Germany, let business fail so new better ones can arise!
Wow. This thread did not turn out well
The lesson to be learned from this situation is that there's no way you should open a school if your goals are to travel to different countries to learn and compete. If you cannot dedicate your life to it, don't open a school.
Also, even as a purple belt, I feel that charging people black belt prices for my teachings isn't right. In fact, I haven't been paid to teach Jiu Jitsu for over a year now. The last seminar I taught was in Holland, and I did that at just enough to cover my expenses. There is no place for greed in this art, it makes me sad to see this happen because Matthias was a cool guy.
