can't wait to drill this.
You make this look easy Chris but I think this is gona take some reps.
Thanks for posting this. I showed a much uglier version to my coach that made him scratch his head. Hopefully your better example will clarify my intent.
yes.
coach, how would you recommend advancing to a better control position? or would you ideally finish from here?
I like this! I cant wait to drill it some.
Very nice. I like the wedge detail. :-)
Cool. I'm glad to have finally seen a vid on this. I've been doing the reaper for a while now, but I've never gone to that heel hook after. I usually try the legoplata or move my opponent's trapped leg to my other side and spin round for the calf crush (just like the one from Russian cowboy). I've also found I can easily get to 50/50 from the reaper sweep, but I know fuck all from 50/50, so that's on the back burner.
I love this technique been repping a less controlled version for a bit and I have had very good success with it. Cant wait to rep this one as well.
Ericl Paulson teaches this move, ive seen it on his vids, works well
this stuff is the real deal. drill it, use it!!!!
Alot of the guys at my academy regret attempting to mount Scott because of this transition.
I used to use this mount escape by itself. Adding the Reaper --> submission is just a bonus. I love this.
A few things.
1. Chris Herzog, your magic truly is eternal.
2. This is one of my 3 go-to mount escapes and it works like a fokken charm. I learned it from Boss Hog on an early episode of Dukes of Hazzard.
3. The "Depth Charge" makes my nipples hard like i just funneled a pint of Jack Daniels, and i cant wait to see it!
Thanks old friend!!!
Zog=Leg Lock Master
Can't wait for part two!!
I have been using that set up/escape forever!!! I have a pretty high percentage with it. But I really like your details about controlling the knee, and stomping the foot for better control ;) This will def add to my technique. Only thing I have done differently is I push on the hips, is there a specific reason your pushing on the rib cage? Just asking, as you are the leglock master :)
Yes, I find when I'm pushing on the hips I'm creating space away from me as if I'm escaping to butterfly guard. If I'm maintaining my hand position on his ribs I'm making sure I'm creating space upwards in the direction I need to pull my knee throuh, so I can cleanly transition to The Reaper.
Thanks, that was my guess, but wanted to clarify. (singing) "Don't fear the Reaper... Unless the Zog is puttin it on youuu.... Then just tap out baby, don't lose your knee now... Just tap out baby" LoL
All you have to do to escape this is fall to your back. ;)
Ouch!
Mmmm...
DRILLING this technique reminds me as to why we wear rash guards. i mean, be careful not to get your thumbs, wrist, and such trapped especially once rolling against a resistant opponent.
Dude I saw this on youtube the other day and it blew my mind at house easy it is to get after 10-20 reps. Love this move. Can't wait to try it in the austin open
ahhh damn how***
Once you dial in the reaper you see it everywhere, it's crazy. There's one setup I use against a butt scooter, where you butt scoot on them with a half butterfly while laying the other leg flat.. immediately they drive up to take mount, which opens up space for the reaper.
BTW,.. this very cool setup/technique to have available to go to.
and please, allow me to redeem myself by adding something constructive to this thread.
I hurt my knee a few years back in a comp using a 50/50 type setup. So, this is more of what i look for since my knee injury...

Shane The Leg Knot is the way to go. I use diffrent details and entries than Reilly. The Reaper Mount Escape Part 2 uses the Leg Knot, it should be up sometime today.
